Yes, it's very much just a barrel swap boys and girls. DPMS barrel extension and your favourite barrel is all you need! Smith test fired it today and she's coming home tomorrow!!

Will post details when I have her. BCL hit this baby out of the ballpark!!

It's nice.

Saskatoon Gunworks :)

Ballistic Advantage by any chance? They do make a great barrel. Quality far exeed the price point in my experience. Would be nice to know that an off the shelf barrel will work.

Or was it a custom barrel build?

I've not worked on a 102 yet.
But I have threaded/chambered/fitted various barrels to AR barrel extensions. Breeching is very straightforward, easier than say, a Remington 700. The barrel must be turned to desired contour, including the correctly sized gas block seating area, the gas port located and drilled, and muzzle threaded. Very doable.
It is good news that the barrel extension is not a unique proprietary part.

Incidentally, take-off sporter barrels can be repurposed. For example, a Savage .223 barrel can be fitted to an AR barrel extension without the use of a reamer, if the machining is done very carefully. I missed by a few thou, had to finalize headspace with a hand turned reamer. Diameter at the gas port was undersize. Bored an aluminum sleeve, drove it into position, and turned it to gas block diameter with a shoulder to seat the gas block. 1-9 twist, shoots 69gr SMKs very well, and the light sporter contour makes for a good handling rifle.

If you handload try 38gr of varget under a 129gr SST, it's doing right around 1 moa in my MH loaded to book COL. My Hornady #9 lists 38.2gr as max charge, and 38.1 also does very well.

Picked it up just now!!! Looks amazing. I bought an off the shelf barrel with a DPMS barrel extension already on it, already headspace. Smith just put it on, added a smidgit longer gas tube (gas hole was further down than original barrel). She's all mine now range report tomorrow at the latest.
