Pickled Eggs THREAD

Yesterday I read this entire thread and loved it! It’s been a long time since I made pickled eggs but I really want to try some of these recipes. My recipe was so basic that I dont even want to post it! Got me craving picked eggs real bad so I went and picked up 12 at the grocery store, I ate 8 in one sitting, they were good but not as good as home made! The rest will be done today so tomorrow I’m thinking Il make a batch, I want to try this one. Montreal Steak Spice, Sriracha hot sauce, how can this not be good?

Update with pics

Finally got around to doing a batch, I doubled the above recipe since I made 24 eggs. Made enough brine to fill 3 1L jars. The jar on the right is mushrooms! Had to use up the extra bine somehow. They are now a week old and Im not sure I can hold off much longer!

This is the modified recipe for the double batch and the one I made. I decided not to use sugar since I like the heat!

Brought to a boil then simmered together for 10 minutes:
4 cups vinegar
2 cups water
2 tbsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp Montreal steak spice
4 tbsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
1 cup Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce
4 cloves garlic crushed

Added to the jar with the brine:
1/2 onion per Jar (cut into rings)
20 cloves garlic (cut in half) (10 In each Jar)
24 boiled eggs (at least a week old, brought to a boil then allowed to cool for 15 minutes, then covered with cold water for another 5-10 minutes before peeling)

Well, did you live to pickle eggs another day or what? They look awesome just wondering if they burnt completely through your stomach and kilt you dead?

Anyone have results from the spicy looking one from the top of this page? They look awesome just wanna make sure they aren't to hot. Cheers

I haven't tried that particular recipe, but have made some very similar. In my experience, the vinegar really kills the heat. I highly doubt its too hot, unless you have an extremely low tolerance for spicy foods.

My contribution. I had a few hard boiled eggs in the fridge and boiled up the rest of the eggs we had. For 18 total. I then boiled half a club pack of Costco breakfast sausages. I chopped 3 onions and put them them in to the bottom of the jars, followed with a big jars worth of hot banana peppers divided in to 5. The eggs went in to two large jars, and the sausage in to the three small ones. Next was a liberal amount of Frank's Red Hot, chili pepper flakes, pepper corns, salt, garlic powder, and some mustard seeds. The jars were filled 3/4 full with vinegar and topped with water. This is my first time pickling. I will give them a few weeks before I start eat them.

Mrs Arclight is absolutely horrified I did this LOL. My Scottish step father said "ach no"! - that from a guy who eats haggis and blood pudding 2-3 times a week LMAO. The hardest part is waiting. If they work out well, I will make a big batch for deer camp.

I got in to a jar of eggs. They have a pale mustard colour. There is a little heat but not enough for me. They are good on crackers with a bit of cheese and salami. For my next batch I will use scotch bonnet peppers. The sausages are great and hot. They took the heat better then the eggs did.

Last Sunday I had a few of my eggs and several cans of Guinness while watching the CFL eastern and western finals.... The wife was not happy that she had to open windows on a very cold day LOL.

I want to stay married so pickled eggs are off the menu. I actually love my wife of 40+ years. I liked eggs pickled with onions and garlic in malt vinegar, but.....you know the result.

Deer hunting camp next week, I just made 3 dozen pickled eggs too! I took some advice from this thread and put some Montreal Steak Spice and pepperette chunks in the jar as well. I had a few broken eggs so it was scrambled eggs for supper.

After over 40 years I do still love being at deer camp with my life-long friends!

Make me puke Mike - I won't let them through the door at my camp :)
