UPDATE on post #60

Hey everyone,

Bought a shotgun from a sponsor here, it arrived today. So before starting a thread on the sponsor's section, thought I'd get some insight here first.

Upon receiving it, I noticed on the box the original stickers were cut already and the box was re-taped.

When I took the shotgun apart to take a look, I noticed the finish on the bolt's face was pretty worn for a new shotgun.

There was also gun powder residue on the chamber/feeding ramps of the barrel and inside the barrel.

So, is this normal? Or was I sold a used shotgun? Thanks guys.

Damn. I'll wait for a few more opinions before I contact the seller. Makes me sad though if I paid for a new shotgun, and they sent me a shotgun someone already played with and returned/stuck back in the box.

Just got off the phone with the dealer.

I was told that they take them out of the box sometimes to inspect everything then ship it out. Mine came from the "master" shipment and was sent to me directly after the distributor....

"The bolt wear is just factory test firing. It's normal"

Huh.

Didn't know the factory test fired enough rounds to wear the finish off... :(

IMO,

1. the box is no big deal, often they lose boxes and switch when selling. I bought a remington 700 new that was supplied with a box that did not match the gun, but the gun was new. the retailer simply switched the box when they could not find the original box (the rifle was on display).

2. it is a big deal that it was fired and not clean when bought tho, and I would expect a new, clean, unfired gun for the price of a new, unfired, clean new gun. getting a tested or pre-fired firearm would not be acceptable to me.

I agree. I don't care about the box but it's just a clue to support a previously opened firearm.

Main concerns are the finish wear, that look like natural usage wear, and the residue left from firing.

I call BS. That sure looks like a lot of test firing to me, I've never had a new firearm show that much wear.

I would request other UTS15 owners to post pics of their "new" bolt faces for comparison.

I added UTS15 to the title. Hopefully owners will chime in.

I also PMd the sponsor on here asking with pictures. If I don't get a response I'll start a new thread.

Really hoping I don't have to, as I like to keep sponsor reputations high.

The Boxes were probably opened during customs inspection or at the shop to confirm the actual contents once arriving at the dealer. The wear could be Factory , they may have put a few more rounds through some of the guns to ensure function the whole way through the Mag tubes and feeding etc. Depending on the finish it may wear more or less than some of the others we are used to . I would send a PRIVATE message with Pics to the supplier, voice your concerns and what your expectations are and see if you can reach an agreement with them first . Ask if they can at least inspect a few other bolts to ensure that you in fact did not get a test model(this will lead to more opened boxes though).

Hard to say how many shots it's fired. Paint on the bolt face is not going to last very long and could start flaking off after just a few rounds. There shouldn't even be paint on the bolt face IMO.

The one I receintly opened was sent from the distributor (Wolverine) to my LGS and the factory tape/seal was cut so gun shop could verify serial number. There was a post it note on it not to play with, customer wants to open.

When I inspected it, there was no residue in the chamber, only a little fresh oil, at the barrel end there was no gun shot residue. I checked the tactical choke and it was clean. As well, the bolt face did not look like that at all!

One could speculate it was a return / repair gun, but who knows. Your opinion is the only one that matters as another poster said.

If you ask the question if I would pay a premium price for a gun in the shape shown on your pictures as a new gun, the answer would = No!

Did you by any chance already return yours?

If not could you snap a pic of your bolt face please? :)

Yea mine was bone dry and dirty. I just finished cleaning and lubing her up.

That gun came from us. It came right out of a master carton which came right from the importer. It was not fired here, switched boxes etc. The other UTS I have on display is full of carbon and showing bolt wear as well and it has never been fired by us. We open all boxes as does the importer and possibly customs. It's hard to confirm there is actually a gun inside if we don't. These are all test fired, some probably more than others, at the factory.

Here is a picture of my finger after running it around the chamber on the one that's is here.

When I explained the test firing to you on the phone you told me that made sense. A simple call back/email would have resolved this instead of posting on here.
