Pics of a new Shorty 454 - and here's a shorter one yet!!

Yep, those short barrels with the Gunnar top rail do look nice. Totally change the look of the gun. I can see Ruger changing their's to match in the future.

Camp Cook or Gunnar, I and I am sure others would be really interested in some chronograph results showing the difference between all those lengths with various powders and bullets. When will we see a report in the reloading forum? ;)

I'll do a side by side report of the 4.25" and the 7.5" as soon as I get the shortened gun back from Gunnar which should be somewhere around Nov 20/06 when I go back up to Prince George again and pick it up.

I have loaded and chronographed in my 7.5" barreled SRH from 240gr XTP-Mag's @ 1900fps to 395gr WLNGC's @ 1420fps so should be able to give a full range comparison report that will fit everbodies needs.

I won't post where I got the SRH or for how much in order to follow the forum rules because they are not a part of our Canadian Gun Nutz team but I will pm anyone who is interested.

I went to the gun club this afternoon and shot the new SRH 454 Casull.

Whoooo hooo it is even more accurate than the last one...

I was getting clover leaf groups @ 25 yards with the iron sights and after mounting my Bushnell 3200 2X-6X scope and doing a few clicks down and a few more right I was hitting a 3" X 5" rock repeatedly @ 100 yards with my 300gr XTP-Mag loads. Actually both of the SRH's where hitting almost exactly the same spot with the scope @ 100 yards.

I'll be sending the old one to the Gunnar tomorrow.

Then I am going to have to be patient because I will not see it again until about the middle of November.

What about guys with 12.6 ? Could they have the SRH barrel chopped to 2.500" just like the Alaskan ?

No. No new 12(6) handguns can be bought, imported or created in Kanada. Not even by a 12(6) holder.

Unless there is a change in the law, once the last 12(6) holder in Kanada dies, a large number of handguns in this country will cease to be legally owned (ie. sell them before you croak or your estate gives them up unless they're antiques (ie manufactured prior to 1946?)).

I just talked with Gunnar my SRH has arrived safely and he figures it should be done at the end of next week.

My only problem with him getting it finished so quickly is that I was heading out to the Kootney's for a couple of weeks and won't be going to his area of the province until the 3rd week of Nov.

He also told me that the fellow that bought the shortened 5.5" SRH has brought it back because it is to much gun for him.

So for you guys that are interested in a 5.5" SRH 454 Casull please buy it before I buy it for myself. I really don't need 3 different SRH's in 4.25", 5.5" and a 7.5" two is enough.

If I hadn't bought my new SRH already I would have grabbed the 5.5" and saved a couple hundred dollars. :(

Since when does "need" have anything to do with buying a gun? What are you an anti?! ;)

How is this then........

I need more money because.......

I need to buy a Dillon 650 progressive press.

I need to buy a Marlin 1894SS 44mag so I can get back into CAS competitions.

I need to pay Gunnar for the repairs to my Colt Delta Elite, the work he is doing too shorten my SRH and when that one is done to put the same sight rib onto my new 7.5" SRH so the 2 will match.

I need to come up with money to buy all the crib and other stuff my wife wants.

I have a wife that doesn't want to go back to work after the baby is born so I need to think responsibly when it comes to what I spend my money on for the first time in over 20 years.

:( :( :(

You just said it "stuff my wife wants." Those aren't "needs"!

Ya... she shouldn't be going back to work after the baby... put her back to work now! One week off when the baby comes and that's it! How are you suppose to pay for your needs and her wants? Adjust your priorities and be a gun owner team player! :p

Hey, doesn't Gunnar have a "No payments till 2008" plan?

No new guns for you, then... :(

YA YA YEAH......

She is working now it's me that isn't... I'm 47 yearts old now and I retired a few years ago so she thinks that she should have some time off as well.

I told her that after she works for 27 years instead of only 6 years she can retire as well. :D

Oh well maybe I need to take a side job to my prospecting or strike it rich.... :p

To some prospecting is a job too me prospecting is my excuse to get into our great outdoors and to legally carry handguns...... :dancingbanana: :D

Cam you need to bring that bad boy to the pumpkin shoot at Mission in a couple weeks.

Great idea!

"Gunner,......

you should post this also over on the ruger forums. i'm sure they would love to see it..... "

Thanks, I just registered :)

Gunnar

PS - the latest development is that a new owner of a 5 1/2" one has put it up for sale with me. He put a few (less than 50) rounds through it and has admitted it's a bit more than he can comfortably handle.

AND, that will happen :) I recall in my Motocross days a lot of riders invested in 500cc Open bikes only to sell them with 1 race on them :) (and a wrinkled rear fender and bent handlebars...)

I had the 7.5" SRH 454 that is getting shortened @ Mission's Pumpkin shoot last year.

240gr XTP-Mag's @ 1900fps resulted in evaporated pumkins @ 25 yards.

I unfortunately may still be in the Kootney's for this years Pumpkin shoot so may not be able to make it.

Gunnar

Is there any chance of getting a range report from the shooter who decided to sell his shortened SRH .454 Casull?

I would like an honest opinion from him/her regarding the increase in felt recoil and muzzle blast.

If you are patient and can wait a few weeks until I get my shortened SRH back, I will be doing a side by side report comparing the velocities of my shortened SRH to it's original 7.5" velocities with the identical bullets.

I will also be comparing the recoil as well in the 4.25" and the 7.5" barrel lengths at the same time because I will have one of each.

Geologist I will even do better than that pm me your phone # again and when I'm ready and if you're interested in going to the club and shooting both you're more than welcome to join me.

I just ordered 345gr & 405gr WLNGC's from Beartooth Bullets and will have loads worked up as soon as I have time.

I already have 240gr & 300gr XTP-Mag's, 300gr Gold Dot's and 360gr & 395gr WLNGC's ready to go.
