Pics of a new Shorty 454 - and here's a shorter one yet!!

From what I understand it is a semi-finished stock that is designed for the original Win 92 and as far as I know he may not make it until I order it. So he may make it to exactly the specs that we want. If you want maybe we can work together with him to get a better deal and split the shipping costs.

I'm actually going to try and come up with a butt stock and fore end to ship to him so he can use them as a starting point/template.

I feel that the comb is to low for me as well and was going to discuss this with him.

On another note when I checked my brass that I fired yesterday in the M92 I noticed that some of the cases had a weird ring around them about 2/3 of the way up the case.

I inspected the chamber this morning and found a grove in the chamber in the exact location as the marks on the case. I just called Tom and will return this rifle to him on Tuesday and get another one brought in from Caldwell's.

Camp Cook

Sounds like a workable idea.

I'm going to check my rifle and figure out how much needs to be added to the comb.

I'll inspect the chamber at the same time.

Sorry to read about the manufacturing defect.:p

I'm also going to find a set of replacement sights as I am not too keen on plastic sights on a potentially hard-use gun.

I like the Hiviz sights, but I would like the rear sight in particular, to be a ghost ring type, preferably made of steel.

I think I'll take a picture or two of the M92 and SRH together. They make such a lovely couple. :D

Nice picture...

I would really like to chronograph your 5.5" SRH with my loads for an even better idea of which barrel length is actually best.

I am going to get Gunnar to install his sight rib onto my 7.5" SRH but may get him to shorten it a bit if the velocities justify it.

I was talking to XS Sights this week and they told me that they have a Ghost Ring sight for the Puma M92 that will work. I do want to check into a bit better though before I leap. I am comcerned about the strength of the action behind the lugs where the screws of the G/R site will go.

I'd also be interested in knowing velocity differences between 16" and 20" rifles.

IMHO...as the area behind the lugs is in compression when the shot is fired, I see no problem as long as the screw hole has a screw in it.

Very interested in the rear sight.

I finally got my Crimson Trace LG344 laser grips for my shortened SRH.

Here are a couple of pictures. I haven't had a chance to try them out yet but so far the grip feels good.

I believe I am now finished messing with this ultimate bush carry handgun...

I have settled on shooting Beartooth 405gr WFNGC's @ 1200fps average velocity in this gun...

These same loads do 1550fps out of my 20" Puma M92 rifle...

How does it do against the dreaded Velvet Elvis or the equally scary Velvet Flaminco Dancer?:p :D
Nice looking unit and gear. You should be proud!
Cheers

It was hopefully going to be tomorrow but I caught a cold 2 days ago and don't know if I feel up to it yet. :(

I'm dieing to get it to the range though... :D

I have been doing draw and dry fire practice all day and not having to line the sights up really speeds up the draw time...

I know this is techniquely wrong for proper handgun control but I have been practicing placing the laser's dot where I want the bullet to hit and not taking the time to line up my sights at all... :)

I feel that this set up should be extremely fast even with the heavy recoil of this gun/load combo.

I will definately do a You Tube of me giving it a try once I get the laser sighted in...

edit to add...

HKS #25-5 speed loaders

I made it to the range but for some reason my computer won't allow me to down load the video clips of me drawing and shooting 3 rounds of 405gr Beartooth bullets @ 1200fps so I can't post them until I get my computer looked at... :(

I just got off the phone from Bob Mernickle of Mernickle Holsters http://www.mernickleholsters.com/ he used to live in Mission and was a member of my gun club before he moved south to persue his booming holster business.

I called him and ordered this shoulder holster for my 4.25" SRH http://www.mernickleholsters.com/sh/sh7b.html but with the thumb break from this holster (which is my belt holster for this same gun in the photo already posted) http://www.mernickleholsters.com/fc/fc13r2.html

This is now beyond a doubt my favorite bush carry handgun... :D
Now I have to be patient and wait about 2 months for delivery...
