Just finished today - this one's a 5 1/2" (2 inches chopped off) - tomorrow I'm hoping to complete a 4 1/4" one... What do you think of the sight ramp treatment?? I actually think it looks a lot better than the Ruger unit :) Note: Edited to add the fourth picture of the ramp attachment. Tightly fitted into the barrel and frame, screwed down (and loctited, of course). If someone has a load that will loosen that, we'll add silver solder :)

OK, here's the 110mm one as well, just finished! Hmmm, I like that one better - guess what I need now for myself??

Or do I need all three.... :)

That looks great Gunnar, the ramp makes it look like a a Security Six on steroids. The original finish cylinder looks good too.
Cheers

Nice! I assume you use a piece of stainless stock as the barrel rib and re-beaded the barrel and ramp after installation? How is it attached? silver soldered? Drilled and tapped on? Both?

That is exactly what I have been thinking about getting you to do on my SRH 454 Casull but can't decide on the barrel length that I want yet.

I'm actually thinking of selling off my 6" S&W 629 44mag and having mine shortened to 4.25" or 5.5" and buying a new 7.5" or 9.5" SRH's instead.

I just spent the last 3 1/2 weeks in the Northern interior with my G20 10mm, s/s Ruger Bisley Vaquero 45 Colt and my 7.5" barreled SRH 454. I ended up carrying the SRH most of the time and had been dreaming of a shorter better balanced barrel length to switch to when I was in need for the power of a 454 Casull but a shorter handier handgun.

I have 100 395gr WLNGC's loaded (1420fps in the 7.5" barrel) just sitting there waiting for me to get the shorter barrel done.

I'm totally kicking myself for not stopping in @ Armco on my way down now but I was on my way South then West to Terrace to meet Gibbs505 and shoot his 525gr 2350fps Gibbs 505 but thought I'd keep my sholder (OK so I wimped out  ).

What is the cost to shorten mine and install that front sight?

Camp Cook,
After carrying my SRH with the 7.5" bbl for one season and shooting it some I opted to go for the 5.25" bbl instead of the 4.25" I was originally thinking of. IMO the longer bbl balances better and keeps some more of that ballistic advantage that the 454 has over the 45LC or 44 mag. I like the balance and feel of a 5" ish barrel.
Mine has a blued ramp but I think the stainless looks better, I might have to trade my 629 classic for another 454 from Gunnar ;)
Cheers

Ike thanks for the thoughts.

Makes a lot of sense what your saying... In my Bisley Vaquero's I prefer the balance of the 5.5" barrels but on the smaller New Vaquero's I prefer the shorter 4 5/8 length for balance.

I purchased the 44mag to have a double action revolver for when I was in areas that had big black bears and only the occasional grizzly. Since then I find that I don't take it all that much anyway prefering my single action 45 Colts and the 454 Casull for power. I carry the G20 10mm far more than the 44mag.

When I was in the Omineca Arm area of Williston Lake on this last trip I stayed with a fellow and his Tsak Key Dena native wife and all of her relatives that constantly dropped in for a visit. When they showed up I always had my leather cowboy action holster with the s/s Bisley Vaquero in it and my cowboy hat on.

Absolutely good humour the looks I was getting... Some of them thought it was great but some looked like they wanted to scalp me...... :D

These two worked out at just under $300 plus tax each :) I'd love to build you one, CC! We'd find out how a shorty behaves with your humungous loads! I am pretty taken with the 110mm one, even though in my heart I know the 5 1/2" one makes a lot more sense. What the heck is sensible here anyway?? I WILL have myself a 110mm one, and fairly soon :) Why should only my customers get all these neat toys?
