Picture of the day

FUGAWI has it: definitely Berdan I. The cocking-piece is most distinctive.

Former WaSS fellow I worked with, once upon a time, said that he saw some really old, big rifles when they were there, '42 - '43, things with bores the size of a sewer-pipe. Sounds Berdannish enough to me: .42" bore.
.

Good morning fellow Gunnutz :) New day new picture! This one has to do with Italian resistance.

Here is a photo of my Father.
August 1943
He is in command of the Canadian contingent, and C.O. of the Regiment de Hull.
The landing is taking place on the island of Kiska.
Note the mixture of Canadian and American gear.
He is carrying a M1 Carbine, and a 1911 in a shoulder holster under his left arm.

I'm assuming this is Alaska. What was the name of the Island that Japan invaded? I watched a bit of a documentary on that battle a few weeks ago. Marines were poorly equiped to fight up North...kinda like the Canadian Military currently...
