This is a German idea-is't it?I have seen number of pictures of Ju-87 and FW190 loaded with bombs with long spikes fitted on.Some of them were made with concrete/scrap metal mix casings ( I don't know if that's true).

Posed photo? I can imagine what happened when that guy touched off the Boys ATR ....
Recoil would have snapped his head back into the rolled up poncho/gas cape, forcing the helmet painfully over his eyes and into the bridge of his nose.
I still remember having to keep shoving my US-style helmet back when shooting the FN C1 prone, wearing '51 Pattern web gear, the small pack up high on my back. It would have been terrible to wear such kit in battle.
The Brit kit from the same era was far superior, a loading bearing harness with poncho, water bottle and mess kit on the waist belt.
I'm still trying to figure out what rifle that is?
