Picture of the day

Thank you for the nice artillery photos. They bring back memories of my uncle.
My uncle was in artillery in Holland and didn't talk about it much. How would one find out about his service record, and what he did in the artillery?
He said he and another guy flunked math at the end of his training and they never saw another movie for 6 or 8 weeks. They had to repeat the whole thing, I am just guessing he was calculating or plotting maps for artillery fire missions.
He said he won more beer shooting a Ross rifle in training than anyone in his class or outfit. I think outfit is an American term. He passed away on June 27, 2007 at age 92.
I never saw him ever get mad, always smoked makems ZIZ ZAG.

At least better then the germans. They had the italians as their allies ;)

Haven't heard all that many positive reports about the italian performance on the battlefield.

Supposedly Churchill said of the Italians in WWII. It is only fair that the Germans have them this time. We had them on our side in WWI.

Some heavy artillery!

I think the OP will be proud that the thread is doing so well while he attends family matters. What a great bunch. Kudos to those that are posting pics.

Wow!! Those last three look nasty. There would be enough powder in one charge to last us mighty reloaders for several life times. :p

Those are probably Soviet soldiers with captured German guns outside Leningrad. The Germans dragged up every heavy old gun they could find for the sieges of Sevastopol and Leningrad.

Five Aussies getting sore knees and going deaf in the desert. Early model 25 Pdr. at full recoil.

Russkies in E. Europe with one of the hundreds of thousands of trucks we gave them. Towing a 76.2 or 85mm probably.

Truck is either a Dodge WC 51 or Wc 52, one tough truck,..biggest failing was its drivers putting the " pedal to the metal", something its long stroke torquey engine was designed for...
