Picture of the day

Nihangs-13.jpg
Nihang Sikh with(?) Ishapore .318" Express Rifle.

The pic is hotlinked under fair use guidelines. Heck I don't care. That is a nice looking stock and rifle.

What the EAL could have been....

Who remembers or used the 19 radio set ?

Never used them but remembered them well. Just threw out several wooden crates that used to house them. Remember also the sets that had Cyrillic labels that had been intended for Russia. They were to be sold 'off' as surplus in 1950. A while back I posted a pic of my father swearing in the first recruit for the CASF for Korea..... just prior to that he had been instructed to sell off all the 19sets held in stores in Halifax and area.... fortunately he kept careful records of the buyers .. because he was then instructed to go and buy them all back as they needed them for Korea.

A more recent example of the combination:

If that was a marksmanship competition, and you're a "sporting lad," as they used to say, put your money on the fellows with the red shirts.

Not a comment on the Enfield vs. AR, but about the value of the person in control of the bang switch. A couple of fellows who used to wear those red ####s showed up at a service rifle shoot I was at a few years ago. It was a freaking embarrassment, how bad they made the rest of us look.

It looks like two sewn together with para cord

I think the para cord is just an improvised method of keeping the mags from popping out on the run downs. What I appreciate is that a quick mag change is rather difficult with the No4 unless the mags are well worn so kudos to the ranger boys. The soldiers are usually pretty good as well using their issue weapons from what I've observed. Service rifle shooting is all about physical condition and marksmanship not so much about the weapon used all things being equal of course.

In the absence of chargers, changing magazines is workable. Rapid reloading with loose rounds would be a non-starter.

He knows what he is doing,
1) Thumb along trigger finger side of stock, harder to jerk off a shot.
2) Uses a glove to reduce pulse effect on rifle + better grip without undue tension on muscles.
3) Knows what a sling is for.

I would have kept my left elbow closer to my chest in the standing position.

well then they are the 'Deal of the Century' given what little it costs us to have them working on our behalf..... apparently still only getting 200rds/man/yr

... unless of course they were told to keep the rifle at 45 deg. until the target appears ..... :) like the other two (?)
