Things can certainly go wrong...

‘The Long Fall’ - March 9, 1944. An otherwise undamaged B-17 that lost its tail to a friendly bomb plummets 20,000 feet, the crew trapped inside by a rapid, uncontrollable flat spin. [1454x877]

Finns and Swedes were among the earliest converts to all metal,Junkers designed aircraft.I think one of the earliest air routes served with Junkers F13 was done by predecessor of Finnair from Helsinki.

Junkers F13 and later W34 soon they found their way into military. Both types served in Scandinavia well for many years and found both civilian and military use in South America.

Both types have been sold in Canada and well used as bush planes before war but I don't think they ever made it into RCAF.Anyone?

According to most, all of Canada's military aircraft are Junker's. The little potato will try to find some way to give Bombardier a billion dollars to mount some Chinook engines on the Brit subs purchased by a previous Liberal government. Then he can proclaim that under his leadership Canada has surpassed the world in developing sub surface helicopter technology.

BTW-if anyone has or knows NET location of more pictures of Finnish Junkers F13 JU-120 PM me please.I'm hoping to build a model of it and there are very few pix of the subject that I found.

Found them. Thanks to Finnish Defense Forces photograph archive. http://sa-kuva.fi/neo# for interested.

Turns out that machine came to Finland with Swedish volunteers along with bunch of other aircraft. It was used heavily in Winter War and damaged few times to justify total overhaul (I'm guessing few hard landings when overloaded).

In 1940 it was overhauled by someone very familiar with N.American busch planes as overhaul included all usual modifications done here for such-radial engine, new different landing gear with low pressure tires, upgraded and enlarged fuel tanks and new navigation aids (I don't know what would those be,that's what email said). JK-120 soldered like that until 1945 when it was relegated to training duties (I'm guessing static aid as it was scrapped in 1947).

Very cool history for one particular aircraft.

The RCAF reserve flew B-25s out of Saskatoon and Edmonton until the late '50s. I remember seeing them flying around and always wanted a ride in one. I finally got my chance 3 years ago when I bought a ride in the Commemorative Air Force's restored B-25 "Maid in the Shade". Pricey, but worth every minute.:d

And USAAF lads with "Sunday Punch". Quite the nose art:

the photo of the crew of "Sunday Punch" , standing in front of their aircraft, notice the fellow at far left, has 2 magazine pouches for his Colt Model 1911 .45, 2 mags in each pouch, plus one in his weapon, rest of crew look to be only packing one mag pouch
