Picture of the day

For more information about the Israeli Dror, go to www.forgottenweapons.com. Look in the light machinegun section.
There may be CA Drors in Canada; they were advertised at one time.
The US Marine Raiders used Johnson arms in the Pacific early in WW2. An ex-USMC Johnson rifle is worth a small fortune in the US. The Marines got rid of theirs by burying them.
Johnson LMGs were used in Italy by the joint Cdn/US special unit.
It was Winfield Arms in the US who rebarrelled and restocked the first surplus Johnsons to get back to the US.

Thanks for the link tiriaq :) very cool !!

Waffen Panzer SS bombing around the countryside. Could be a SS panzer grenadier Regiment too I guess.

That Waffle SS dude is getting ready to Werf some Flammen! ;)

The guy is practically a midget or else the photo is skewed somehow. Look at the size of his head compared to the length of his legs and upper body. Sometimes that's an advantage though.

I was talking to one of these old boys a while back. Nice old guy in his own way; very handy and creative. We hadn't been talking for more than a few minutes when he started on about how we should euthanize the handicapped.

I wasn't surprised.

History doesn't "happen", it's caused.

Cool story Bro.

I hear the same from born and raised non germans here in Canada too. Your point being?

Were you perhaps speaking with Margaret Sanger?? ;)

Trigh Capuzzo between The Wire and Marble Arch and Benghazi?

The "racetrack" across Italian North Africa. It was the backbone (and the weak point) of the "Benghazi Sweepstakes", the back-and-forth battles in the desert War..... until Monty took a STAND at El Alamein, broke Rommel's Panzer Korps and then started to push BACK, just fast enough to keep Panzerarmee Afrika from proper resupply but NOT fast enough to outrun his OWN chain of supply. Then the Americans landed and it was Monty's hammer against the American anvil. End of tale.

This is a GREAT photo.

.....................................................................................................

BTW, the Eugenics idea became very much a political thing also with the extreme Right espousing it and the Left opposing. The Left won, took over the whole "rights" thing and turned their anti-eugenics stance into an industry which supports an ever-increasing army of social workers; where I live, the ratio is almost 1 fulltime "worker" for every "client". Governments love the anti-Eugenics idea, too, as it enables the Gummint to seize control of any and all ASSETS of the "clients". So you end up with a multimillionaire "client" in a group home (good place for some of them) working fulltime at the recycle, sorting recyclables, getting paid $5 a week. That's the good part (I knew the guy, liked him: he was happy and harmless). The bad part is a Gummint having uncontrolled access to his pensions AND his inherited wealth. Much the same happens to old folks when they have to move into a "home" because their family doesn't want them: they end up in a nice controlled environment but often without the price of a pair of shoelaces in their pocket because they have to pay inflated "costs" for their own "care". We need some CONTROLS on the CONTROLLERS.... but to suggest such is to utter heresy, to proclaim Shibboleth, to bring your own sanity into question... for Surely The Government Is Wise and Good (now that is has banished God but taken most of His powers). Clearly, there must be a Middle Way. End of Rant.

I read a memoir of a German Tiger commander online a while ago. His tank was 4th in line, and he was in one of the first Tiger companies into Russia. The other commanders started calling him "scourge of the trucks" because when they got into action, the first three tigers took out all the Soviet armor before he could get into firing position. He just got to mop up trucks and misc stuff like halftracks. They even gave him a bunch of toy trucks for his birthday. Of course, that all changed after a year or so, then he couldn't wait to transfer to the western front, he said they had zero fear of british and US armor.

But he hadn't had to spend much time looking skyward by that point either...
