Ganderite and Bearhunter why do you have to inject reality in to my wish? Killjoys both of you :)

Maybe the one above then as a lawn ornament.

Holy Mother Russia! Was it knocked out or bogged out? Why was it upside down? Looks like there was a hole on the armour. Human remains? Restored since recovery?

Since it's relatively intact I'm thinking it sunk in not quite frozen bog.Driving anything on frozen bog is hazardous by itself yet someone decided to drive STUG there.

Likely no remains there as it sunk slowly and turned upside after hitting some obstacle while it sunk (like a rocks and such).

Germans didn't have accurate maps of Russia and they heavily relied on those made from aerial reconnaissance pictures. Those don't show bogs/mud etc.Lots of armored vehicles still sunk in Poland,Belarus,Russia and Ukraine.

Someone must have gotten into it or got to the linkage to take its transmission out of gear. Amazing the tracks were even moving as well as the rest of the drive train. A lot to be said about such seals. Then again, for a short time bog muck would likely work just fine.

Sad story this one. The tale is laid bare on a couple of German armor forums if you poke around....Human remains were (allegedly) found - medals picked out and the rest unceremoniously dumped. The vehicle was stripped and the hulk is now sitting in a junk yard. The only good news is that engine and tranny were allegedly were sold to a collector in Germany and restored to operating condition.

That is sad. It's also why peasants can't have nice things.

The front sight on the rifle Ganderite is speaking of is eerily reminiscent of a MP43, MP44, or StG44.

There's really not enough of the weapon showing to make a definitive statement.

PBY's (Catalina's) were called Cansos in Commonwealth service. Some were converted to waterbombers after WWII. Used extensively here in Ontario by MNR. A/C were hired on contract from commercial operators. I worked on numerous forest fires where we had "air attack" support from Cansos. I also had the experience of catching a "ride" in one of these A/C when it was being moved from Timmins to Geraldton . I remember the crew putting 5 gals of oil in each engine during the preflight. A/C was owned and operated by Georgian Bay Airways based in Parry Sound. Contract Cansos were replaced by Canadair CL 215's owned and operated by the Province. 215's have been replaced by turbine powered 415's. You've got to love the sound of big radial engines being fired up.
