Picture of the day

The Caspian Sea Monster was a ground effects craft, it flew, just not very high. The other models of ekranoplans carried anti ship missles. Smaller ones are in fairly wide spread use in Russia as river transportation.

Yes, of course it was. (I would have thought its nature as a WIG was obvious.) As I said, more ship than plane, being unable to operate anywhere except over water. And it was unarmed.

Scabbing over???? Is that like finding inner strength???? They didn't have any resources allocated to help them with their issues. Their Religion/Nationality may have had something to do with that. Times were much different 60+ years ago.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Much the same with veterans returning home from WW2, not much help available but still more than the WW1 veterans got.

Not sure how I feel about this. It's like the airplane equivalent of Jennifer Grey -

Kinda attractive, kinda not, there's that big nose, but is that part of what makes her attractive?...

Meanwhile, in Germany, someone actually thought a glider fighter interceptor would be a workable plan. The BV 40, from Blohm und Voss:

Seven built, five flown. The plan was towing to an altitude well above the bombers, then release, one pass, then make for Mother Earth. Built out of non-strategic materials by semiskilled labour. Flown in the prone position.

C 119 Flying Box car. :) Canadian Air force used them as well.

Grizz

I have a dim memory...just asked my oldest brother: we flew in a Flying Boxcar from Namao to Vancouver in about 1961. We sat on canvas strap seats and had oxygen masks.

Thanks for the memory.

Looks like a P-38 had a baby with a Corsair. Agreed, kinda nice, but a bit like a moped, lol

40 years before the P90, Springfield Armory came out with the Hill SMG :

Clever, clever Mr. Hill. Cool corporate signature logo, too.

Wonder what kind of plastic that mag was made from. That's a realm of materials engineering that's seen a LOT of progress since 1953. Most of the clear plastics then were fairly brittle, were they not?
