Turning farm tractors into armed and armored tanks is as old as tanks. Here is one made in 1941

We have seen some improvised armor done recently in Syria.Lots of videos of them on YT.

More recently, Marvin Heemeyer's converted Komatsu D355A armored "killdozer", circa 2004. Tore the heck out of Grand Lake, Colorado. Was unstoppable by police (bullets had zero effect against the armor). Eventually it got a track stuck in the partial basement of a hardware store it was "just passing through" and Heemeyer removed himself from the gene pool with a .357.

After it was aparent that Heemeyer was dead, police tried to remove the armor with various explosives, and failed. Eventually, it took a welder with oxyacetylene, and time and effort, to cut away enough of the armor to retrieve the body.

An inspiring pic. I like that it shows the nicely formed forend & barrel band. Pretty sharp pic overall. It just screams ' we are open for business & taking new clients.'

From https://opentextbc.ca/postconfedera...dians-and-military-service-in-the-world-wars/

In the first half of the 20th century, Canada’s Status Indians faced many challenges. The Indian Act restricted their freedoms and rights and Canadian society, which viewed Indians as an inferior and dying race, marginalised them economically and socially. Despite this reality, when Canada marched to war in 1914 and 1939, First Nations people joined the national efforts and volunteered for the military. In fact, more than 4,000 Status Indian men enlisted in each World War, the majority as volunteers. Most First Nations were supportive but it is difficult to generalise because the degree of engagement varied greatly, with some communities giving almost every able-bodied man and others almost none. While the Army experimented with segregated all-Indian units in WWI, overwhelmingly First Nations youth enlisted and served as individuals integrated into regular military units.

Where did that pic come from? The vehicle name would suggest an earlier date than 1945.

Legion magazine article online. 'Bedlam at the Lamone' part 88 June 2010. They mention 'Operation Chuckle' -a plan to cross the Senio River, which devolved into static trench warfare from the fall of 1944 through April or March 1945 when the US &Brazilian troops launched a major offensive. The Cdn. troops were redeployed to Belgium & Holland with one of the objectives clearing Walcheren out. And of course to end a mini Holocaust in Holland as a side benefit.

I've heard from a very interested fellow that the owner was offered US$7 million for it, where is as is. He's holding out for more.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Liberals really like POOR people, they're making more of them every day

If you can't vote CPC, stay at home in protest

No way the dudes getting 7 million for Mig. Sorry, but there's an F4 Phantom sitting out there ready to go for 3.8. Lots of Russian jets float around in the war bird market and none get more than 2 million. Most less than a million.

Regardless of the eventual sale price, it is the only airworthy MiG-17PF in the world. That will command a good price.

I remember that incident. The police actually called the national guard to see if they had a TOW launcher/missile they could use to stop "Killer Dozer".

Yankee ingenuity at it's worst. Good news is they can,t move very fast. Ban bulldozers !!! There was a guy who stole a tank from an armory and went on a similar rampage, that turned into a high speed chase, before they managed to get into the turret and shoot him.

Grizz

Meanwhile, in Syria...

Bet it jingles when it hits bumps.

Stand-off armor.;) Sherman crews were big into this with extra track, road wheels, logs, sandbags and even concrete, anything to give them an edge.

When I was in Syria for my first tour in the late '70s you could still see the abandoned Syrian PzkwIV's with stand-off armor which had been abandoned in dominating positions on the Golan Heights during the 1967 War.

Many of these improvised "improvements" to armour had dubious performance. In some cases they can actually improve the formation of the molten jet of a shaped charge warhead. And adding weight to the vehicle almost invariably reduced its mobility. If nothing else, they would have improved morale and perhaps added a little courage in the face of battle.

"I don't like your fashion business mister!" :p

Italian partisans, of the type working for big moustache. The various captions for this pic say they are socialist partisans in (?) Milan maybe during the latter part of the Italian Campaign when a general uprising was ordered. I suppose sack doorknob beatings were up a shocking 800% shortly thereafter.

I know not a pic but it illustrates parts of the end game of the Italian Campaign. Way more than just Americans & Brazilians participated.

Someone speculated about the motivation of the Italian Resistance. I guess there was a huge Catholic versus Communist undercurrent throughout.
