Box o' Truth covered the frozen clothing thing a while back.

Short answer - frozen clothing does about as much as a box of napkins. Not sure how .30 Carbine does against medals, though:

Both the 30 carbine, which is pretty close to energy transfer as the ubiquitous 357 magnum and the 45acp, which has a bullet close to 3 times as heavy as that of 30 Nagant is hardly a reasonable comparison.

An Austrian officer, now deceased, used to call his 7.65 cal Walther PPK at Schtickenpistole because it wouldn't penetrate layered heavy clothing that was often worn under their fancy brown leather great coats.

He did say that it didn't seem to matter though, no one ever came back to get shot again. Who knows?? He did tell me he finally ended up with a PPK in 380, but never used it in a stressful situation. He spent 3 years on the Russian front, so he had all sorts of stories.

Is there a reverse of this picture? It would be interesting to see medals pinned to somebody's a$$. The closest I've ever seen to this was on a Venezuelan guy and he was only a major.

When you've got to wear them on your pants, we're talking Cracker Jack box medals. :)

There is a copy of, " The Man-eaters of Tsavo ", by Patterson, J. H. in the Burnaby Public Library.

They also have, " The Temple Tiger, and More Man-eaters of Kumaon, by Corbett, Jim

I've read the book "The Man-eaters of Tsavo", and watched the movie "Ghost and the Darkness". Good stuff.

That picture of Slim riding the Bomb down.......

Anybody notice what was stencilled on the thing, visible when he was hammering on the shackle in the bomb bay?

Cracked me RIGHT up!

^ Bottom of one bomb " this side down" Front of the two bombs, "hi there" and "dear john". Think they were props for the similar looking Mk 15 nukes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_15_nuclear_bomb

The bomb in the movie does resemble either of the Mk 15 or Mk 17 bombs, although these were B-36 bomber weapons (rather than the B-52G in the film, which was then carrying the Mk 28/B28 bomb), and neither of them had the extremely high yield mentioned in the film (20 megatons or 30 megatons). The larger Mk 17 topping out at 15 megatons.

Had a neigbour who served in USAF years ago. Told me he was in a minuteman silo in Montana. Saw a sign which said delivery in 15 minutes or the second one is free.
