Picture of the day

My Grandfather was a Navigator with the RCAF in England with Costal Command. Shipped over in 41. Stationed in Scotland. Flying back after patrol they encountered heavy cloud and fog.Pilot radioed for a location check and he said they determined the planes position by a sound mirror and I'm assuming a course correction took place. Minutes later the plane slammed into the side of a mountain. Pilot saw it at the last second and managed to pull up pancaking the plane. GG survived the impact and pulled the rest of the crew out of the burning plane. Had to cut his way out with his boot knife which I now have. Post brought back the memory of him telling me about the crash, he's gone now. Thanks for posting Husky.

Hey TeaBag,
Love hearing old war time stories Did he have any others to share???
Would make a good short story in a book!!!

When you have a bigger gun but want casual observers a km or two away to think otherwise...

I really need an 8"x10" or larger print of that picture, I'll happily pay anyone to help me out. I don't have a printer and very little computer knowhow.

If someone has the Library and Archives Canada number for that pic I am sure you can order it. The closest I can come up with a number is PA-131042, seems the Firefly in the pic was of the 8th Princess Louise,s (NB) Hussars and was one of a couple passing the photographer.

Mixed blessings with that longer barrel mod
If the Germans spot that tank first in a group, they'd most likely brew it up first as the biggest threat to them
Then take care of the other tanks in the pack afterwards
Seeing the barrel mod reminded me of Kelly's Heroes and Oddball saying "we put this big piece of pipe on the end, and the Germans think we have like a 90mm or something"

One has to wonder whatever came of the Shermans used in the 1970 movies Kellys Heros and if they played any role 20 years later in the 1990 civil war . Kellys Heros is actually based on a real life theft of gold during WWII.

Donald Sutherland's greatest role? After that he played "Bethune" and went full commie. Nice musical selection on those Shermans.;)
