The fellow next to him is wearing a Maj-Gen cap badge, so he would be a Div Comd. Maybe it's lack of clarity in the photo, but he doesn't seem to be wearing rank badges on his epaulets or gorget patches on his BD collars. The other 2 Brits are officers as seen from the neckties and webbing. Perhaps the original source caption will ID the Maj-Gen. They are not happy campers in any event having become POWs who are about to spend years behind the wire.

The Major General behind Rommel is Victor Fortune, he commanded the 51st (Highland) Infantry, and was captured after Dunkirk with the majority of his division, in St. Valery.

I note that in one instance, the shooter is wearing muffs, the other not.

I just got $5000 worth of ear wigs (and a cash payout) thru' the DVA for hearing loss, a lot of it earned firing the FN C1/C2 and other small arms over a 12 year period.

Turns out that a lot of what I thought I wasn't missing wasn't worth hearing in the first place ..... ;>)

Even in my youth and in the militia, I pu cotton in my ears. My father told me he did it in WWII. Shooting pistols indoor or under a roof, I have molded plugs plus ear muffs as they reduce the low frequencies that travel through bone.

Well since we are on FNs; my late Uncle showing his skills, Armourer, and keen shooter until his death last year. Spoke alot with him about his preferred setup of LEs and the 'FN Automatic' as he called it.

^ I never knew the Brits had wood furniture on their L1s rifles way back when, then they went over to plastic.

Man do I ever miss the C1, the M305 just does not cut it for me. A nice rifle and all but not in the same league as the C1/L1/SLR/FAL/etc.

Our NATO Brigade (4 CMBG) was attached to the 2nd Div BAOR from the 50's until the move to Lahr. Saw a lot of Brits with SLR's and ALL of them had wooded stocks. Used to rankle me that no attempt at matching wood was ever done, some of the stocks being quite blond compared to ours.
