The Borden Hetzer is a shining example of how not to do a restoration as some overreach their capabilities. All will agree that outside display of a vehicle for seven decades does not do a vehicle, even an armoured vehicle any favours and some vehicle deserve more then others attention and respect of care considering the unique history of how they came about to be in Canada. A group of reenactors and model builders talked the Borden Museum into allowing them to "restore" the Hetzer which was far and away beyond their abilities to successfully accomplish within the allotted five years. At the end of the five years Borden said enough, get it back on display the hanger it is in is getting demolished. So they shot on another coat of that F-cking stupid grey paint on it, boxed up the disassembled motor and god only knows what, shoved the boxes in some warehouse and dragged the vehicle back on a pad. Really!! the god damned thing would have been better off not dicked around with, at least it was complete. The Borden Hetzer is an example of a failed restoration attempt. CFB Borden, and the Borden Museum in particular, do not have the time, funding, resources, manuals, skill sets, fabrication and welding skills, capability, connections/contacts or long term will to conduct a in-depth and accurate restoration, interest, wrenching parts off, and bags of enthusiasm will only carry a build so far along.
