Picture of the day

I hadn't twigged to this until you mentioned it, Tony, but I imagine the buunged fender was a result of the firing of the rockets.

Low elevation. Backblast clears the fenders nicely. "Bet we could get some additional range if we cranked her up a titch..."

During - note the fender taking abuse:

After - Bet the other side is just as bunged...

"Goddamn it, the RSM's gonna be pissed. Who's brilliant idea was this?"
.
Yes and they prudently left the auxiliary fuel tanks off of the demo vehicle as well....

Some of the militia armoured units were still using Staghounds into the late 1950s. There was one in working condition at the Armoured Corps School in Camp Borden in 1965. I wonder if these vehicles were repatriated from the Netherlands where most of the Canadian Armor was dumped en masse after VE Day.

They really were just kids, weren't they?

Censor got a little hyperactive on this one.

i did a search of the Commonwealth War Graves, and was glad to find, that both these young guys survived the war, both the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and Highland Light Infantry battalions took part in heavy, brutal fighting, in Normandy, against the 12TH SS Hitler Jugend Division, the 12TH SS was responsible for the murder of over a 100 Canadian POW's, many from these Highland battalions

Would a rocket give any recoil to the vehicle?
it might if it (or they!) were still strapped into the launcher for transport :)!! ( a little ‘JATO’ :) ). at which point I guess it ceases to be a Staghound - and becomes a ‘Stagleap’

Technically shouldn't all of German WW2 and a handful of early allied jets should be "first generation "? They served as base for next generation jets like Mig-15s,F-80 and the like.

Gloster Meteor was first British combat jet to see action so it predates the F80
