Correct. Thompsons were standard issue SMGs in Italy as well. The STEN wasn't issued to 1Cdn Corps until after they re-located to NW Europe in early 1945. That P14 sniper rifle is a head scratcher though.

I recall sitting in an Otter and watching the cars below passing us.
It is a high performance airplane, but in a different part of the envelope than the Sabre.

Interesting that everyone in this nasty little mob got a grenade launcher. Bruces from hell.
And this lot got like twenty harmonicas each. Doesn't seem fair somehow.
I read a book about Australians in Viet Nam by a trooper that was there. He had very little good to say about American troops/discipline/sentries etc.

Read up on the Battle of Fromelles, a supporting attack during the Battle of the Somme where Australian troops were foolishly squandered. I visited there with a group of Australians several years ago and felt it necessary to explain the reasons for national caveats when operating under an allied higher command.

Sorel built everything onsite (including the steel) but the tires.

Hey, Fingers.
Project's progressing along nicely, thanks. We fired out first shots in support of No Stone Left Alone here in Edmonton on Nov. 4, and for Remembrance Day ceremonies in Red Deer. She has her voice again, and we feel very good about that.
Tons of work yet to do. Bits and bobs, some big, some small, but a lot of stuff is available once you get to know people in the community. The Lt. Col is pleased, and as the Friends of the Regiment Association gets its feet under it and starts to find resources, the gun will look more and more like she should.
We're also refurbing the Red Deer statue gun. We hope to have her ready to go back outside for display in the next few months. She needs wheels and tires, paint, corrosion mitigation, etc, but she's going to be pretty (and stable) enough for three generations of Red Deer folks to look at and fart around on.

Never understood the concept of armoured trains. Seems the rails would be the most vulnerable aspect of the thing. An excellent way to transport resources to an area where they can be destroyed or immobilized.
