I finally got this one last year couldn't remember why I got rid of my first one years ago ...I shoot left handed and I watched a video of a guy shooting one then I remembered..ejects the brass right into my face.an old friend who fought in Angola showed me pics of him in the field with his he said they loved them .I like Fns G3s are ok but prefer the Fn

Before Radar they had to listen to incoming aircraft using weird machines like this which amplified the sound. That German one is pretty fancy with it having two people listening and they had to work together. They would listen for the sounds of incoming aircraft and turn the machine left and right until they could both hear it clearly in each of their ears. The third guy would then take a heading from the machine and radio it in to the Luftwaffe.

Lancaster ND801 JN-X overshot while landing at RAF Mepal and crashed into a house in Sutton Village, 3 February 1945. This was her 86th and final op. The crew were; R Crawford, F Boulton, C Bullock, D Scott, R Allrod, A Smith, J Tutty.

Believe it or not, she remained a lucky bird even through that - zero aircrew or ground fatalities despite the sloppy parking job. From Form 541 75(NZ) Squadron RAF 03.2.45. Attack Against Dortmund:

“Aircraft crashed on landing. Pilot, Nav, W/Operator, Engineer and A/Bomber injured and in hospital. Prt. Outr. Failed prior to reaching target and overshot on landing. Camera completely wrecked”.

Earlier in her career (Aug 8/9 1944) she collided with a night fighter over Germany. Chewed her arse up some, but no casuaties in the crew, aside doubtless from the tail gunner's underpants.
