Picture of the day

Well guys New picture New day :) I know this one has been around for awhile but I think it's neat because the German in the foreground seems to have a M1 carbine.

The Germans had a standardizing process to accept, name and support captured rifles. After the US Army got its ar$e kicked at Kassarine Pass in North Africa, they captured a lot of small arms. In the Battle of the Bulge, the Germans overran enough US positions that there would have been carbines for the picking. Not sure, but this picture may be from a strip of shots with the same section of guys running back and forth across a road with the same background. The carbine might just be a prop.

Thanks- maple leaf eh- for the input :) This could very well be a prop, could have been used as a propaganda photo ( saying- See were beating them we even have there weapons) . On another note I just noticed the vehicle in the back-round looks to have a browning .30 cal on the top? Could be wrong though :)

I'd say your right about that being a .30 cal Browning. Looks to be atop a M3 halftrack. Plus I think that's a U.S. 57mm anti tank gun behind the soldier on the road.

OK guys New day New picture :) Not to sure what type of firearm this is ( I'm pretty sure it is Italian because of the two triggers ) But why have the the magazine pouch on the back and not the front? The middle fella is wearing a German paratroopers helmet too right? correct me if I am wrong guys lol :)

The SMG should be a 3rd variation Model 1938A from Italy.

While the helmet certainly looks like an airborne one I suspect that the troops are Waffen SS. They were more commonly issued foreign weapons than the airborne were - although there is some speculation in that so I will gladly defer to others on the ID of the troops.

What I find interesting is that vest. I've never seen mags carried that way. Is that German or Italian webbing? Any more info on when and where that photo was taken?

fugawi - I can't seem to find anything on this pic ( as to when or where ? ) so I am not to sure. The magazine vest is interesting to me as well hopefully some one here can help :)

Cheers

Ya no kidding and having to reach WAY over there to get more ammo. You would think you'd want the ammo inside with ya!

Guys looking freshly shaved and relaxed so I don't think he feels the need. Ammo belongs by the gun, not at your feet. :D

Those are great photos eos, thanks for sharing. And the OP too.

Are those small pouches around the Italian soldier's waist for grenades or something else? A few look empty and a couple anything but grenades. (salami maybe?)
