Picture of the day

Remember they were fighting in the Articc circle, and I read accounts that when a person was shot and killed they froze so fast that the were left standing or sitting in the position they died in.

The cord is probably just the laces or straps used to tie the hat under the chin when the flaps are down. On the Finnish one I have the flaps button together.

Probably just a war expedient to save buttons - the Finns were getting pretty short of lots of things during both the Winter and Continuation Wars.

Thanks for the link though. From what I've read the Swedes brought mainly m/96 rifles with them with a small amount of m/38s. If you notice the bayonet on the far right of the bottom photo, it looks like the bayonet for the m/96s and m/38s. Plus you can just see a barrel peeking out in the corner.

Very true. The absence of buttons could surely be that. Some items would have been issued, while others possibly would have mixed and traded among each other as brothers in arms.

since we are still kinda sorta on the topic of the Finns,

Supposedly, the Finns would stand the Russian dead up to intimidate their attackers.

I have no problem with putting pictures up. But please NO gruesome or gory pictures. We all know how 1 million + lost there lifes in WW2 ( we don't need to see it ) This thread was started for People to learn and discuss the pictures ( Not of the dead)

Cheers
Joe

Damn. If I was on partrol and I came accross that I would be pretty intimidated. Pretty messed up but you really cannot blame the Finns.
