Pictures of the SKS bought from westrifle.com

Pretty sure its not chrome lined. I have a few rifles that are and there is an obvious difference. I kinda like the idea that this one is a bit different. I picked it up for a Christmas present to a friend, but now I have to keep it and shoot it :)

That SKS is from the "I" block of the Letter Series. It was made 4 years or more after the Russians started chrome lining barrels.

haven't fired it yet, but here are the pics :

Does anyone know what the cause is of the discoloration on the cover? I have the same year all matching in laminate with the same discoloration pattern.

The discoloration is caused by the heat treating of the metal. The center band is left softer for stamping. Take a look at the underside of one that has the factory and date stamp sometime, and you'll see what I mean.

Cool. Thanks!

Ask me I picked those out I might have an answer.
Ok discoloration is caused by the way those were stored . When it is in a case it is stored the same way it is transported. Top cower is where one part that touches the wood in a box for many years. I guess chemical reaction of cosmo and wood causes that.

Hey Al,
You may know the answer to this: why EZ bayonet doesn’t have the golden color the Tula has?

Please excuse the clarity of the images, my 18 month old Son "aka Mr. Hands" has been randomly pushing buttons on the camera and still trying to fix it!

1954 Tula, no refurb markings at all, looks really nice and as Alex stated most likely never fired. Minor mark on a part of the stock a little more than a slightly deeper finger nail indent, and I mean that's it.

Other than that, this old girl looks like she rolled out of the factory yesterday not 58 years ago.

Might leave this one (Or the next one ha ha)) in the Cosmo and put it in the safe for my Son.

When's the next batch!?

Because of all these pictures and positive reviews I went to the site and selected my hardwood SKS. I already have a tacticooled sks but I want a beautiful example of the original as well. Thanks westrifle I look forward to receiving mine.

Unissued 1954 Tula, with infamous Gold Bayonet... Sorry about the crappy quality pictures... Will post some better ones later on. Camera is acting up...

Westrifle was a pleasure to do business with. For the price and quality guns they offer, they cant be beat. I would buy from them again without a doubt. Very professional service, and very quick.

Just wanted to thank Vlad for coming by to exchange the numbers mismatching rifle I got with a nice Tula 1954r.

Really cool guy, has some pretty interesting stories about the business.

With the volume of sales Westrifle deals with I'm not surprised a single mismatched part went unnoticed and when I asked for an exchange he made sure I got a replacement..as in delivered it to my house personally....that's pretty cool.

Anyone looking for a quality SKS, Westrifle is the place to go.

That is what I call A+ customer service. It's too bad that some companies have no idea what customer service is!!
