The machining for the Barreled Action and Cerakote was done by Terry at Black Art Rifle. Superb work and this rifle is shooting very well.

Update: Stock work pretty much all done. Now to seal, paint and add some colour to the barreled action. Bolt has smoothed up very nicely and runs slick. I have shot the rifle and it is going to be an accurate shooter.

Ejection of the cases are a little too energetic. Great for a hunting rifle but not so much for FTR... Try and chop the spring or just remove the ejector.

Project will get finished for spring 2015

Beautiful machining and chambering by Black Art Rifle Company. Min spec chamber and will be throated for the 30cal Heavies

Some other Pierce Custom Receivers - Repeaters with 308 and 223 bolt face

Very impressed with the machining and tolerances of these Actions. I have seen them in action and they work very well. Can't wait to get my rifle finished in the coming months.

Weight of my receiver without base or lug as pictured... 23.5 ozs

Pierce alloy base is about 1 oz

If one chambers long on the field gauge you should fire form your virgin brass with a created false shoulder for best brass strength... but you guys know that... posted for those who don't...

Jerry great info nice to see photos of the action setup. This is just killing me....decisions decisions.

What is the true weight of the single shot action with the trigger and rail? Are you using a recoil lug for the action?

The weight as pictured is 23.5ozs Rail should be 1oz.

I will be using a steel recoil lug (1oz) with the action although, with the square tang, you don't need to.

Given the very high number of rds that will be fired, the lug will help stop any wear and tear on the stock.

the stock is a homemade design. Built 2 and are working very well. A few refinements especially in the recoil reduction department. No production plans at this time.

I know I will be underweight so will free up weight for stuff like Tuners and other add ons.

For weight comparison: no rail, no lug, no trigger

Titanium single shot SA with extra lightening, standard profile and tenon, tactical bolt knob - 20.8oz

Titanium Repeater LA, standard bolt knob (small knob in the bottom action in the pic of three) - 20.5oz

Is this going to turn into one of those step by step build threads?

Cuz I'd be really interested in seeing where you go with this!

Which brings to mind another thread of yours that I thought was going somewhere "build"ie..... What ever happened to that Axis you ravaged? Holy off-topic batman!

The Axis project got built, shot and then sold off. I did post some info but that was a couple of years back.

The square tang will help with both torque and recoil control. the flat in the receiver will also do some work BUT, this rifle is going to see thousands of rds per year. That type of pounding is going to wear on any stock so adding a larger recoil lug from the beginning will be a good thing.

the Kelbly Panda f-class panda weighs about 30.5 ounces with a full picatinney rail, static ejector and built in recoil lug, they are about 2000 canuck in high polish with all the goodies, this weight is not with a trigger

probably about 1600 canuck with gst for the basic f-class panda with regular ejector to your door, in 2014

Jerry good luck with your project, pierce actions are also used in benchrest (short range) a little

(hey jerry send me that new litz book modern advancements and tell me how much I owe thanks) everyone should get it as xmas is coming and you must buy something for yourself

Jerry - that Pierce sure looks sweet. I am using Barnard P for Open and S for F/TR and I am really happy with them but seeing those Pierce does make a man think ...... :)

Hey Jerry,

What is the bolt made of... Titanium or steel? How big is the firing pin hole? .062, or larger like a standard Remington? No ejector.

NormB

Bolt are 1pc steel... no similar metals issues. Very nicely made and fit is excellent.

Small firing pin with tight tolerance... no bushing should be required.

All actions we ordered had ejectors but that can be easily removed.

Ejection has been very good, flinging the case in a nice arc out of the action.

Here is a hint, if you chamber to just not close on a field gauge you are within the rules and can get a useful amount of extra powder in the case.

Can you expand on this?
1.630 go
1.640 no - go
1.6455 field.

the rule as it was explained to me recently is that they will be testing 2017 worlds for no-go dimensions?

thanks
Trevor

Titanium = weight savings

And the difference is substantial especially in weight restricted shooting classes.

There is no accuracy advantage to Ti per se. My receiver incorporates features that focused on the needs of F Class - better strutural layout, less weight, better recoil control.

Pretty sure mine is the first and only 1 with these specs in Canada at this time. I am sure more will come as it really does answer a range of questions and concerns especially in FTR.

Trevor60, I am very happy the 2017 Worlds will put a cap on case dimensions in FTR. I hope that it will be come the standard and tested at all matches. Were there also going to put a max OAL on the cartridges?
