Hello All,

I already did a search about magazines and pinning magazines and I couldn't find anything. My search-fu is probably weak, but I'll post this anyways.

What is the best way to pin AR-15 mags as well as PMags. Drill and rivet? How far are they down from the top to limit them at 5 rounds?

Thank you.

I called Colt and they sent me the proper spacers for my factory Colt 20 round AR mags. In simplest terms they looked like a hacksaw blade bent into a U. They installed under the spring and took all of a minute or two to install. Check with who ever made your mags and see if they offer the spacers.

Spacers may not meet the legal requirement unless they are permanently fixed in place. I think the regulation says something about not easily be removed. So if you can disassemble the mag and take the spacer out without tools then I don't think you have a legal mag.

Rivetting seems to work and is quick and easy to do. Canadian tyre sells a riveting tool. All you have to do is carefully measure......

i just loaded 5 brass, opened the floorplate, put a rod down to where the floorplate meets the bottom of the mag, cut it off just shy of that, slid the floorplate shut, and pop rivet in place-that way i don't f/u my mag well-

Pinning Mags

One way is to use empty brass and the good old Tap method (just like finding a stud). Might take one or two errors, but once you know the measurement it is easy to do on multiple mags.

From what I have heard from gun dealers un-pinned mags are not only Prohibited but cannot be pinned legally.

To have a legal pinned mag, they must be pinned outside of Canada and then imported.

It would be like making a prohibited auto rifle into a semi. Just because it is semi, doesn't mean that it is not prohibited, it just becomes a different class of prohibited.

This is one reason AK Mags are so hard to get, importers are not willing to pin them before importation.

I have had this discussion with Ellwood Epps and Marstar.

If you choose to pin your own mags, realize that you may be treading on the grey side of the law. Once the mag is pinned though, it is hard for anyone to know where it was pinned.

Ar mags....epoxy a lenth of curved arrow shaft to the "pin" under the mag follower. M14 mags...flat bar, rivet to the mag follower. Take one apart, you will see what to do. Both have no out side holes or rivets.

Please don't spread BS.

disassemble the mag, put 5 round in, drop in the floorplate and measure the depth with a peice of wire. mark it on the outside of the mag when your sure, drill and use a pop rivet. I got a rivet tool at princess auto for cheap.

BE VERY CAREFUL.

If you do not have a firearms dealer license that allows for the possession of prohibited devices, you SHOULD NOT attempt to import high capacity magazine shells. These have been determined in at least one case to be a prohibited device: R. v. Cancade.

My thoughts exactly. You are admitting to being in posession of a prohibited device. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong.
