I'm not sure if this is the right forum (may well not be but I'm not sure which long gun forum would apply.....mods...feel free to move) I'd like to get some advice/opinions on these. What's available in Canada...what's a decent buy....what to stay away from etc etc

What calibre interests you?

I have a 45ACP JR Carbine, and I do not recommend it. It's fussy and needs tweaks to run mostly reliably.

Thureon Defence. .45 big bore runs like a top and is accurate. Plus their service/support is fantastic.

Restricted or non restricted ?
I have owned most pistol caliber carbines that are out there.
The one I have now is the best one out of all.
It's a Mini Famae.
Now this is just my opinion.

The pistol caliber carbines also include the lever and pump rifles chambered in most of the usual revolver rounds. So are you after semi auto or lever action? There's even a few bolt action style guns in .357 and .44Mag.

For semi auto I don't own any but I've been lucky enough to have shooting buddies with a Keltec Sub 2000 and a JR Carbine. Both in 9mm. I've also shot an HK 9mm and a Beretta Storm in 9mm. The HK and Beretta were soooooooooo smooth that it was like shooting a rimfire like a 10/22. In fact other than making really small groups they were a little boring. But VERY effective as a tool for putting rounds on target. The Sub 2000 and JR both shot decently accurately as well. But something about the overall design causes these guns to kick around a little more and feel like you're shooting a more powerful round than you really are. As a result they actually are more FUN to shoot but if shot rapidly they don't put the rounds into as tight a group due to this jumping around during the recoil compared to the HK and Beretta.

I have not handled or shot a Thureon but I'm going to guess that it'll be more in the same class as the Keltec and JR.

caramel knows his stuff, but I hate the look of the storm. My JR in .40 seems to function fine if I clean it, but definitely not something I'd rely on for life/death

I am not saying JR's and TD's are POS, they are pleasant to shot but you cant compare them to a Storm on the long run... Just saying... JP.

I second this. I have a 40 cal and it is shockingly accurate and fun fun fun to shoot. No regrets other than 1 broken firing pin that was replaced freee with no hassel. Warranty service is amazing even though I was second owner!!!!

My 10mm TD is big on the fun factor and reliability is good, i have a failure once in a while... One thing is sure when the Storm in 45 ACP in NR configuration become available, i will buy 2 for our range beside the farm house ( love pistol caliber carbines, to shoot close to the house )... JP.

I was thinking semi in 9mm. Just to be clear, when you say "Storm" are you talking about the Beretta CX4? (I thought that 'Storm" referred to the PX4 handgun)

Would 895 be a reasonable deal on one of those? (new)

Beretta CX-4 rifle, 895.00 is a great price for it... JP.

Now if I was going to "upgrade" from my JR, a 10mm Auto would be the thing I'd want :)

The point made above about the lever guns is valid too. Something based on the Winchester Model 92 action would be the most slick, and the strongest. Years ago we had either a Winchester or Marlin in 44 magnum. It stomped good.
