I know nothing about IDPA, but am thinking about it for CCW purposes stateside. What pistol limitations are out there? I'd like to use a 1911, but prefer an extended slide release as a southpaw. I think I'd get an inside the pants holster.
The 1911 is a great pistol for IPSC, with a 10 round mag you're on the same level as all the other pistols. In IDPA you can only use 8 round mags (can not extend past the grip). Even if you have a double stack 1911 I think you can only load 8 rounds (have to check the division regs). Even though you are not competing directly against the SSP and ESP etc... divisions that can use double stack 10 round mags, I'd recomend thinking about a 9 or a 40 such as the ones Canuck44 mentioned. I recently moved form a Colt Series 80 to a SIG P226, I like the SIG much more for IDPA.
