Hi

I was just wondering if anyone has ever taken a good pistol couse that they would recommend. I live in south west Ontario and don't mind if I have to drive into the states.

Thanks

Neshooters’s Courses

Defensive Handgun 100 This is our entry level course that focuses upon building proper gun handling skills and good accuracy. There are no prerequisites for this course A Women’s Only version of our 100 course will be scheduled for 2010. We are more than willing to offer additional dates for this class, as needed. An Armed Security Guard version of our 100 course is now under way We are more than willing to offer additional dates for this class, as needed.

Defensive Handgun-200 This is our second level course which seeks to refine the lessons learned in our 100 course and introduces the students to new skills such as moving in all directions, turns - left, right and 180, close contact shooting, various ready positions and after action assessments (Breaking Tunnel Vision). On each of the days the student will shoot a skills test. The student must have completed a course similar to our 100 course.

Defensive Handgun-300 This course focuses upon dealing with a criminal assault including options, choices and tactics. The course will deal with "bad breath" distance assaults, mid range assaults and longer range situations (beyond Tueller Drill distances). Only about 150 rounds of live ammo will be used in some of the discussions of the "Bad Breath" distances assault and all of the longer distance situations. All of the mid range and some of the "bad breath" distance assaults will be taught using Airsoft guns. The goal of this course is to assist the student in evaluating what works for them in a variety of situations. We will also be introducing the student to some real life scenarios to further test their new skills. This is not a beginners course and prior training that covers the content of our 100 and 200 courses is recommended.

All of the above courses are 2 days long and can be attended as full 2 day courses and in either one day or half day increments, as need to meet you needs and schedule. To enroll in the classes, please complete and mail the application. To pay for the class, please use our Shopping Cart which uses (FRAUD ALERT)

I'd like to learn as much as I can in a course. Everything from reviewing my current grip to better techniques in reloading and moving between targets. I'm pretty new to the sport and can benefit from almost anything.

What are you looking for in a Pistol Course?

Why not take the black badge course? If not to shoot IPSC in the future, the course is a great training course, and teaches good fundamentals.

Which sport you are interested in? Bullseye, PPC, Action Pistol, IDPA, IPSC? Last four will require holster qualification, like Black Badge course (though for IDPA they say a quick safety briefing is enough).

A IPSC Black Badge Course will teach you all that plus you get to make use of the skills you learn at matches shooting with a great bunch of ppl

This is a good idea for sure, and once you do it, you will likely want to shoot IPSC matches since you must join IPSC anyway to take the course, and shoot a match a year (I think?) to keep your Black Badge.

Very valid question. The OP seems to not be looking for Discipline specific training at the moment just some skills.

Not true. Most IDPA clubs require you to take the IDPA Holster Orientation course which is about a day. Unlike the Black Badge course which is mostly a shooting course if I remember correctly (but covers all aspects of holster and safety like an IDPA or PPC one), the IDPA course is mostly on holster and gun handling safety.

I say visit Idpa/ Ipsc matches or any other styles you're considering to shoot and even though you may shoot in more than one dicipline, you'll likely lean towards one more than the others... then take the course offered by that dicipline (also one that does have holster qualifications), and i'm sure you'll learn many of the skills you're looking to learn...
these courses are more than good for now.
any other more advance course are always good to take as well and will be lots of fun, but they'll be costly to get started with and the travel, etc...
Get your feet wet with the local courses and shoot some matches.. and understand the games you'll be playing..
then you can take some of the more advance courses and you'll know which of those skills mix with the sport you're shooting and which are good to know, but not confuse how to use them in ipsc/idpa/other..
