Pistol grip on Shottie

I've always kinda likes the terms "scattergun" and "pin-gun".

Riley, they ain't being mean to you, they just figure your post whoring a bit to much, kinda reminds them of someone else that ain't around no more.

Who might that be? We got more flakes than Kellogs lately.....

I have messed with the pistol grip thing on a few shotguns, and am of the same opinion as Mad dog.

The full butt stocked shotgun gives more control in a low position because the buttstock guides tends to touch the elbow, guiding the rear end of the gun.
With a pistol grip and buttstop combination, the hand is forced into an unatural position if the muzzle is kept level, and without the butt stock all guidance control is lost at the back and the whole thing must be controled using the forend alone.
And forget about ANY accuracy from a normal position!

In a reload situation where the gun ius held at the ready and loaded with the left hand, the pistol grip only makes it impossible, unless you have a set of arms on you like Win 94, and even then I think he would have trouble doing that!

Inshort, pistol grips are crap!

Everyone should buy a pistol grip for their shotgun at least once to get it out of their system. Pose like a gangsta, shoot it from the hip, try off hand with 3" buckshot and when your wrist stops aching sell it to the next sucker. :p

You can call your shotgun a "shottie" or the "magical room clearing trench gun from Hades." Just don't get too offended if the most of the world thinks your an idiot when you do.

Oh ya, forgot about the wrist thing!!:D
The last one I set up with a short barrel and pistol grip was on an M37 for my bother who uses it as a defense weapon for his trap line cabin ( bears and such)

How can I put this.... NOT FUN!!!
We took it off and put on thee standard choate after.

I'd have to say there is a place for pistol gripped shotguns. We have a large sort of unsocial dog that we like to take on long walks outside of town where there are generally no one else around. We've seen 3 bears on our last 2 outings. My ultra light and short gun is not even noticed while slung but 8 rounds of 000 buck is a lot more comforting than a rock. Plus the heat shield and loaded side saddle should be enough to scare them away at first sight.

This is the advantage of the pistol grip and folding stock, if you restrict yourself to 2 3/4" loads you should not have a huge problem.

I might get one of those "tactical" norks for fun, but getting a new Moss 500 for my workrelated bear defence.

Calm down 'lil bro. We all remember what its like to be 18. Sometimes the lips or in this case typing fingers move a little quicker than the brain. Slow down, save some of the real whopper stories for later. :) Much later.

And BTW if you know a lot about guns at 18 yrs old proly best not to say so. If you keep it up might end up sounding like a 20 something guy that knows everything about guns.

Cheers 'lil bro.

I gotta give you this, your one cocky little bugger.

Your in the presence of some of the best hunters in Canada and gunsmiths from all over and you've got the guts to say that not just once but three times??? 10 years, whoop dee doo.

I've been hunting for 24 years this March yet I know better than to say something like that, I'd be the first person on this site to ask a question cause I'll admit that I don't know it all. I huess I can quit posting and just p.m. you when I get stuck, thanks.:)

After 40 years of competitive target shooting and hunting, as well as repairing , and just plain messinig with rifles , pistols and shotguns, I can say that I still learn something everyday that I did not know before.

If a person tries to learn one thing every day, I think they had a good one.

BTW, if you ever need to know about savage 99's , I suggest you ask mad Dog, he knows a LITTLE about them!:D

It is amusing to me that after all the talk about promoting shooting and hunting to the younger generation of Canadians that all we do is berate them for contributing their two cents. I would much rather hear from a young man that knows a little less about firearms than listen to the usual ranting of some over the hill shooter who knows it all. If we want to see the next generation interested in shooting, we should foster their interests, not attack them any chance we get....

I guess thats where we differ then, if theres something wrong with my gun or I'm after something I've never hunted before I'd much rather hear from an over the hill shooter thats been there and done that.;)

Oh ya, I don't think we're attacking anyone, just making some points, it's not out of hand or I'd just lock it.:p

I think the questions been answered a couple times on this thread but I really don't like to lock anything in this section, things usually work themselves out in here.:)

you may not have herd but you cant teach a old dog new tricks well its the same as people. The younger they are the easier it is to learn and like i have said i have been hunting for 8 years using guns for 10 and been around them since i was a baby. Oh i never said that i new it all about them i just said that a know a more then you and some people may think. I know some people of the 40-50-60 year old groups that don’t have a clue. i know my dad knows sweet $h!t all about them but how to use them and look at all the anti gunners out there. I’m not cocky i never say what i don’t know. oh and im in the presence of the best hunters and gunsmiths in Canada................... ya that’s true and i never once said that i know more then any of them.
I know that I will never learn everything about them but it has been my ambition in life for the last few years to learn as much as I can. Explain to me how I could finish the PAL course in just 5 min and get 100%. So ya I don’t know It all and i NEVER said i did but i do know more then most will give me credit for.

Its not a matter of discouraging or not bringing in new people as it is about
R E S E P E C T and humility. This is somthing that is lacking in both young and old these days.I ve learned valuable info from people
that are new to the game as much as from the crustiest old timer.
Newbies often see things through fresh eyes and different viewpoints.
that being said .There are folks on this board who have been around the world working with firearms maybe doing things others wouldnt or couldnt
Having some one else with little or no experiance crowing about how he or
she knows more about a subject than most is lacking in respect and offencive
to those who have had more years of experiance than he has been alive.
Buy all mean keep reading and even better shoot as many firearms a as often
as you can. Thats the only way you will truly gain practcal knowlegde.Lord knows we need as many people getting into the field as we can.
Just remember RESPECT and HUMILITY will serve you much better than
Direspect and arragance.
Sorry about the rant but I ve been seeing this for a while and I had to be
said.
