A thread with a similar title got me thinking, what are the cool pistol tricks a guy needs to know to get the full handgun experience?

The ones I'm familiar with:
- catch the round you rack out of the chamber in mid-air
- rack the pistol by shoving the whole gun forward violently
- any shots where you are aiming at the target without looking down lined up sights, such as hip firing and compensating for having the front sight in the wrong spot on the target by mis-aligning the sights
- after a reload, catch the falling mag

Haven't tried, might be good?

Aside from the fact that all of those activites seem to violate the doctrine of safe handling...

I couldn't imagine racking a slide just by pusing a pistol forward ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here is the best trick ever: insert a snap cap or other inert training round into your handgun making sure no live rounds are used/involved. Line it up pointed at a solid wall as if you were going to fire, but before you do have someone put a spent casing on top of the firearm, primer/base down. Then dry fire onto your snap cap or training inert round without making the casing move, even the slightest rocking, until the hammer falls: absolutely no movement from pulling the trigger.

It's a heckova trick, and it also can make you good at shooting: an even better feat. :dancingbanana:

I saw a video of a guy in the Philippines doing the #### the slide thing with a Glock, but since it was an IPSC match, I'm not sure what the springs were.

Worn or tuned slide stops will allow the slides to be racked forward from a sharp mag insertion or possibly from a sudden wrist snap. But racking the slide from battery with live rounds pushing on the inside bar is something else again. I saw that You Tube video and had to try it with some snap caps. Not a hope in hell of doing this with a stock gun. The guy must have been running a hellishly light recoil spring.

Only "trick" I think I need to know is hit what I aim at.
And make them "appear" in the safe before she notices that all of sudden the number of pistols I own has doubled lol

Amen to that! Doesn't help when we both get a Canada Post slip at the same time and go to the post office together... ;)

ive done all of those, with the exception to racking the slide with no hands. the recoil springs in my guns aren't that light. i also like the finish on my guns so i don't rack the slide on objects either.

Try this .... BUT - wear both plugs and 'lectronic muffs and do it when you don't have a lot of other shooters around or a helicoptering RO.

Load your semi-auto (start with a .22) and point it down range. With a mirror in your left hand, turn to your right (assuming you are a righty) and rest your right wrist/forearm in the crook of your left arm.
Now line up the sights on your target with the mirror by making the appropriate body movements. You'll have to adjust your thinking as well as your body. Hits on pop cans are no problem after a while.
Saw this performed in a video by Mexican police shooting at targets held or on prisoners who got reduced sentences for their co-operation. I used to do this with a 9mm Browning wearing no ear protection. Might 'splain why my hearing in my left ear isn't great .....

Didn't say it was smart, but it is fun.

Ah yes, forgot that one. Definitely high on my list of favorites, the mag insert auto-slide release.

the slide "auto-forward" on mag insertion is a standard feature on Grand Power handguns. Makes for a fast reload if I run dry during an IPSC stage.
