Plastic POS

Ok, so I know I'm going to ruffle a lot of feathers but I feel as though I have to rant about this.

All the firearms I have are passed down to me from my grandfather. They all have nice walnut stocks on them and feel like a gun should.

I was in the local gun shop yesterday and decided to kill some time looking at new guns. I asked to see a tikka hunter but the guy only had a t3 lite in stock. He handed it to me and I thought he had handed me a kids BB gun. What the $%*@ is wrong with you people that like those POS "synthetic" stocks?

Synthetic is just a glorified term that they have marketed that means light plastic. In my opinion cheap synthetic stocks have no place on a store shelf until toys R us gets a license to sell firearms. I also was dually unimpressed with the tikka action that I had heard people raving about but that is a whole other matter.

Anyone else feel the same way? or have you all been brainwashed into believing that a synthetic stock is far superior for it's weight and "weather resistance"?

Yer your right
My McMillan A5 "synthetic: stock is just a plastic POS......:jerkit:

And you think plastic is ugly?!?!

Ugly, hideous, sacriledge, you pick.:) Even the finest plastic would have been badly scarred on the fall that rifle took.

Unless of course you are being sarcastic with your comment, I never know how to interpret direct comments it seems.

But really threads like this are totally useless, they pass the cabin fever around and nothing good ever comes of them, there are lots of better subjects we can talk about where we all try to get along. Just my.02 of course.;)

I don't think the fall made the gun that ugly, I suspect it had a good start well before that. I like pretty wood to stare at on a safe queen but to my taste there is nothing pretty about that wood stock. In the picture it looks very plain and monotonous in both colour and figuring. But pictures can certainly be deceiving and maybe I'm not seeing the true beauty of this one.

To hear some folks here talk about their rifles and how worried they are about what others may think about them makes me wonder if they have a matching set of high heels and purse in the gun safe as well. :p

Seriously, are you out there to get Deer and Moose or are you there to impress your buddys?

Use what works for you and to hell with anyone says about it. :D

That's the problem with so many of the "synthetic stock is ugly" crowd. They don't understand how truly atrocious looking some wood/blue rifles are:p

Just because a stock is wood, doesn't mean it's better looking than a synthetic one. All it means is that it is WOOD;)

So, you buy a gun that has a really pretty piece of wood on it,and that just cost you 500-1500.00 extra, what do you do with it to preserve the value? buy a synthetic stock to put on it to take hunting. Scratch a 1500.00 wood stock? spend 500-1000.00 to refinish it the same as factory? What do you do if you wipe out going down a shale slope and the wood stocked gun goes sliding down with you on top of it? New stock.
I've had a rifle go down a slope with me on top of it, get hammered against a tree by a horse, bounce around in a pickup, go for a rollover in a Jeep, get run over by said Jeep,
all on synthetics--never even changed zero.
Then again too, 'ya can't even hang a pretty pc of wood on a gun and hang it up in your house and admire it anymore.
