I used my 30/30 this season and will for many more, I'm just broadening my horizon a little bit.(with much trouble as you can tell)
While I talk about these "other" guns, my 30/30 won't even come in the same room:D

I am looking at buying another few rifles over the next year, but it is so hard when I am such a die hard fan of the ones I already own for the type hunting I do. I am going to try a few different rifles, just for a little while, I will crawl out of my box, ... it's scary out there, in new Rifle land

You can learn a lot about broad horizons in Southern Saskatchewan; that's what the deer hide behind.;)
 
30-06 is the answer to this, and almost every other cartridge question.

But if you're sold on the 7's, any of the above will do just fine; I'd pick the 280.

None of the above. Buy a 338 Winchester - or better yet build a 338-06 - and have at it............. ;)
 
The 7-08 is my favourite of the 3 cartridges you listed. It will knock down anything you are planning to hunt without blowing out your shoulder. If convenience of finding ammo is a priority, the 7MM Mag is probably your best choice. The recoil is manageable and it probably rivals the 30-06 in popularity.
 
I'm gonna be the proverbial $hit disturber, and suggest my new favorite rifle.....A 444 marlin. It's a familiar lever action for you, and it packs a hell of a whallop even for grizzlies. I DEVASTATED a big black bear last spring with mine, and it changed my views forever. I mounted a red dot scope on it, and hit a moose at 260 yards on sept 9. One shot kill. Nothing does the business quite like a big bullet moving at slower speeds. The difference from the .45-70 is the trajectory. (and smaller bullet)(I chrono'd my loads at 2375 f/s) I haven't needed anything more than the 265 grain hornady interlock for all my hunting and the other rifles are unfortunately gathering dust.
 
Can't go wrong with that either (my model 70 winny is my backup rifle and its definately chambered in .30-06) I guess I just like having something different, as almost everyone who see's my .444 goes Ape$hit over it. The condition is mint, and its from 1965. Plus it shoots WAY better than I can,.
 
I might just try to pass the hint on to Lori for ya. Christmas is just around the corner. Anyhow, I ran my numbers through my ballistic calculator and it says with my reloaded 265 gr Hornady flatpoint (with 100 yard zero) my drop at (200 is -7.8"), and 300 is -30")
My load uses Remington brass, winchester magnum rifle primers, and 47.5 Gr of H4198
(Just in case you reload, I am not sure if you do or not, but if not the Hornady lever evolutions or the Hornady light magnum loadings are also the cats meow). I have a 24" barrel so my numbers might be slightly higher than with the common 22" barrels on the rifles sold today.
Why go to something unfamiliar, when your fridge has been stocked for years with a lever? If its not broke, don't fix it. Your formula works. Maybe just tweek it with a bigger pain pill for the furry friends.
 
Don't mention to Lori anything about Rifles,... I want to surprise her with one this winter or late fall...she was supposed to have her PAL done by now...
She's home in NL for a couple weeks now,... I'm planning to pop up and surprise her last of November early December...

Any snow yet???
