I have an 1853 vintage '49. 6" Two line address in heavy brackets. ALL numbers match, and as seen pretty nice condition left on her. My PROBLEM? NO cyl. scene. NEVER was. Serial number on cyl(stamps) are bookends to the stampings of numbers on the rest of the pistol. Another interesting item is no ".31 cal" stamp on left side of trigger guard frame. Instead there is an ' X " . Although this is an earlier gun and I know the .31 designation was not evident until later guns. Can anyone shed some light on what is with this gun? Suggestions, speculations I have `mic`d`the cyl. exactly same specs as other `49`s I have. So no way it was buffed or turned down. Besides the se. number would have been effected. Serial number location on the cyl. is bookends to style, location , and height of my other examples. A Mystery!! thx GH

Unless it is just the lighting in your photo the color of the frame is a bit unusual. (case colors--or does it show bluing?)
The serial number on the cylinder is very clear and it is odd that the rest of the cylinder scene has been removed.
Also compare the font of the serial number on cylinder with those on the frame.

Try removing the cylinder to see if the numbers (the last four numbers) on the cylinder pin match the numbers on the rest of the revolver.
Also check the number on the barrel wedge and the underside of the loading lever to see they match.

It appears as though the 'trigger' is brass.

This 49 still has some case color on the frame---mfg'd in 1855.

The serial numbers on this '49.

Barrel address.

Good luck in trying to clarify this mystery regarding the missing scene on the cylinder.

COLT 1849 Pocket. Info Please

Thx for the post . FYI , any colt ya find w colours like this , grab it quik. All numbers match, said so in thread. Yeah trigger guard frames were brass lol unless very rare iron frames. Mostly encountered on " London" guns . Or...... If 80% of silver plate is left then brass underneath May not be evident. Anyway cyl scene is the object of my enquiry. Cheers

Accumulator,

The '61 Colt Navy shown below manufactured in early 1861 has no cylinder scene remaining ---just the serial number on the cylinder.

Maybe the same issue?

Curious. But yours has the rectangular border left mine no . But on other pockets I have all have borders. Wonder ? If they are factory replacement cyls? The condition of this pocket though would make you wonder how or why the original cyl got replaced? As I indicated , the measurement of the exact placement of the numbers is bang on with other factory examples I own another only 700 numbers older than this one. So I have a prime unit to compare within the same manufacture year. Mystery lives on :( Thx

Accumulator,

I only own two '49s---this is a London Colt mfg'd in 1854 S/N 3222.

London proofs.

Some more photos of this London '49 Colt Pocket Model.

Oops. Actually quite a few London iron frames. I was confused , mine is a two line NewYork Iron frame. Less than 8-900 ever produced, without reading my '49 pocket book again to find it. Lol
