well I have read and seen many reviews on youtube that argue the contrary. I am sure that the cz is a more accurate firearm. I think it looks better personally. I love my cz and the fact that it is non restricted is very nice as well.
 
I think because it is more common to come by, and non restricted makes it so appealing. I personally really dislike restricted firearms because of being limited were we are able to use them... I own restricted rifles but it being non restricted is a huge deciding factor for myself.

There are few of us who can own an AK-47 (12-2) CA's (12-3) or the semi-auto clones (12-5) like me.

I have an 84-S in the safe, and appreciate it's robustness.

However, if I wasn't so dang busy buying other stuff that I'll actually shoot, I'd be awful tempted to grab a VZ-58 so I could go to the range and shoot it.

I note that I cannot legally take my 84-S to the range and shoot it as I cannot get an SAP for that purpose.

I'm thinking that much of the attraction is the similarity (to those who don't have a real one) and for some that do have one, the ability to actually take it to the range and shoot it.

I couldnt agree with you anymore NavyShooter, being able to shoot it anywhere (in the case of the 858) never mind able to use it at all plays a huge role...
 
I have used both, and aside from the crappy wood-resin furniture, the CZ is a nicer rifle in every respect. The Czechs have always been first rate firearms manufacturers, and this rifle is no exception.

No sorry not for me. It's not the question of shooting the AK that makes it more desirable. The AK is an icon where as the VZ is an "AK look alike"
AK's are easier to repair and maintain than the VZ

The big deal is that most people have never held an actual AK, let alone fired one. So they buy a VZ so they can do the closest thing (I guess). And I agree with you, I HAVE held and fired actual AK's in both SA and FA. The difference is night and day with the AK being superior in fit, polish, function, ergonomics and aesthetics.

It's kind of like, I can't afford a Sony LCD TV so I buy a Sorny LCD TV Chinese knock-off. If my buddies can't tell the difference then that's good enough for me.
 
yeah an icon that nobody can have or own anymore aside from a few. the argument here is about quality, and accuracy. Look at the reviews in the states where they can have both. There is a couple youtube videos where guys are saying they like the vz better and they own both. Had mine a year now, and it is very accurate at 100 yards, and has not had a single jam, or issue.

Well I have both and I say my Hungarian SA-85 is more accurate and reliable than my VZ-58, and I've fired both.
 
The VZ58 is accurate. Very accurate.

I finally took mine out to 100 after owning since May but just busy shooting other stuff.

Shooting cheap 17cent a round surplus ammo I could easily do 2 inch groups with open sights. Its light and very, very well balanced. Standing shots at a 6" plate were consistent hits and non-tiring due to its excellent engineering.

The finish on the metal and tuff composite stock make it durable and tuff for extreme weather and thick Manitoba bush. No worries of metal rusting or scratching the stock/metal. Chrome lined barrel makes shooting corrosive ammo a bit more justifiable as it doesn't pit easily like regular chrome moly barrels.

The side swivels and sling make it easy to shoulder sling for hiking and quick access, again it is light and easy to haul up and down hills, thru swamps and thick evil Manitoba bush.

Recoil is marginal, accessories like compansators, rails, pistol grips and stock options are easily available and can be installed by anyone with simple tools. Maintenance is easy and dis-assembly is tool free.

Mags are more than stiff enough and easy to find mag pouches for as they work in standard AK pouches which are abundant thanks to airsoft.

Non-res version is appealing to me as I can take it hunting, no ATT BS. Big, big plus. Unfortunately I will never be able to handle an Ak in my life time let alone own one, so what choices do I have.

Mag release takes some getting used to. Just need more practice to make it flawless.

I have posted this before but the gun is so cool even my 4 year old (5 now) can shoot it and enjoy it.

You're arguing here about VZ and AK's and dont own an AK?? I'm lost :confused:

Take it from me. I own both and I tried both. AK rules..BTW try to find a youtube video where they compare both, instead of a fat blob giving me his expert opinion on a VZ-58 with no AK of his own in sight.
