PLEASE HELP[me choose a .357 from 3 models]

As much as I like my S&Ws, especially my mod 28 when shooting 357 loads...

my GP100 in SS is close to 20 years old and it still looks, locks up and shoots like when it was brand new...

Such kind words, I almost felt tears in my eyes... not.

No don't comment on my post about people from quebec, you'll hurt somebody's Internet feelings.

Like jumping on newbies, superhero?

Most newer members here wait a while and actually get thier facts straight before offering advice. You can go ahead and have an opinion and I encourage that but if you're full of BS expect to get called on it :D

The S&W has the smoothest action and best trigger---better trigger means easier to hit the target.

I've had Colt and S&W revolvers that have a wide variety of trigger pull characteristics from gawdawful to sweet and smooth. I don't think it's fair to say all Smiths are better than any others.

I have the Gp100 with the 4.2 inch barrel. I've shot over 1200 rounds since July, and I absolutely love it. Added a HiViz front sight, and she shoots really smoothly. No problems with the trigger, it's nice and smooth. I've shoot 2 IDPA matches with it, and it hasn't let me down.

Did you want the shorter barrel for comfort and do you find any diff over having 4.2" versus 6" in terms of accuracy?

When I think of .357mag only one name come in mind

SMITH & WESSON

Getting my facts straight? Show me what isn't straight in these facts:

If you want to show your gun, get the Colt.
If you want to shoot your gun, get the S&W.
If you want to go to hell and come back with your gun, get a Ruger.

My FACTS are all traight and true. You're the one who's BSing.

Fire all three and see wich one you shoot better. Subtle differences in trigger sights and frame may make you better with one than the other.

I went for the Ruger (twice) due to strength of frame, price and personal preference of ergonomics. In particular I like Rugers pivot cylinder release as opposed to S&W push forward. To me it looks nicer, feels better.

They are all excellent guns and you won't be dissatisfied with any of them.

I would go with the S&W because they have the best, most tunable triggers of the three listed and I think they have the most refined appearance. S&W also has very good warranty/repair service through Wortner's and M.D. Charlton.

Ruger would be my second choice, but their actions definitely aren't as smooth as a S&W.

I would stay away from the Colt because the lockwork isn't as good as either S&W or Ruger in terms of long term durability. Parts can be difficult to find and few gunsmiths work on them.

The Smith runs an easy 1st place in my books & has an easier / better resale value. Ruger builds a fine revolver, but just not as good as a S&W IMO. Colt Revolvers are over rated. I would look at at a Uberti, Beretta or the likes if I was looking for a single action shooter as well.

You pay allot of extra cash for two letters S+W $300.

Nope...I paid $499 for my 686-5 good used, I doubt it has been fired more than 200 rounds before I bought it, it has been serve me really well for eight years. I am going to take some pics later. On the other hand some people bought a GP 100 and paid for a trigger job, and this make no price different.

Opps...Here is a pic

There's one with the 4.2" barrel in EE right now and I'm sooo tempted. I've already got the Python and the Smith so it would be only fair to try the Ruger, right?

* scratch that, it's gone, thank gawd I can eat this month.

I have 3 S&W's, 686, 626, and the 460.Love em all, they all shoot well, and the trigger pull is excellent on all 3. My vote definitely goes to the 686, shoots where I point it and is lots of fun.

4.2" Rugers are hitting Canada (made like this from factory for California.)
###Y-HOT!!!

No question now, get the GP100 4.2"!

686 Performance Centre

I've owned a 6 inch GP100, 6 inch S&W 686p 7 shot, 8 inch Colt Python and a 5 inch S&W Performance Centre .357 Mag. The 8 inch Python has tighter groups and is a great gun, but the Performance Centre gun has equal accuracy with its Walther barrel, a better double action trigger pull, Fibre Optic front sight and a light rail.

I've kept the Performance Centre 686 and have sold the rest.

If you can get a S&W Performance Centre revolver, buy one, they are superb! Second would be a Colt Python, third a factory S&W 686 and fourth a GP100.
