Some members may remember my rants about a certain Marlin XT22TR I purchased with a butchered bolt and extraction problems, well I got it back from repair and behold same problems.

So the nice retailer fought with the import / warranty company and got a replacement, in turn they are letting my upgrade my rifle.

I am fed up with Marlin right now, I bought a 597 as my first gun and it is a great gun so far, and I figured Marlin and Remington as the same how could I lose? and I did big time.

The retailer helped me every step of the way and now is no different, I have the opportunity to trade up and I plan to take that opportunity and run with it.

The problem is I don't know where to put my money now, as it stands I am pretty much just a bench shooter and want a quality rimfire to have fun with.

I have looked at a few but I am not at all set in my choice, please CGN members help me, your my only hope.

I have been looking at:

Savage BV/FV/TR
CZ 455
Henry Golden Boy

I am open to any gun that members feel will do best for me.

My buddy has a Savage MK II GL, he bought it when we both first got our PAL and that gun is very nice, of course we are comparing it to my Remington 597, and most others at the 22 range are rolling with 10/22's and tactical styled guns.

So I have never really had a chance to test a 455, I have held one and it felt really nice but the bolt movement felt grainy. I have also heard its hard to get magazines for the CZ's as well.

Whats everyone's thoughts on Henry's ?

I would go CZ. If you are not happy with it, it has a great resale demand. Look in EE & people are asking new price (& some are getting it). The Savage is a good gun & accurate, it is just a little less than the CZ. These are just MHO as I still shoot Rems & Brunos.

I have been reading reviews on CZ's and so far love what I am hearing, I do like the savage as well as I have used them before so I am still torn but I do respect each and everyone of the CGN users opinions so it is swaying me toward the CZ.

The only issue I may run into is supply, I am doing this with one retailer alone I feel I owe them my business as they have fought with the importer to get me this credit and while they haven't offered me a refund for my Marlin they have offered me 1 of 2 scenarios

1) take the replacement Marlin when we receive it
2) Upgrade

So I am stuck potientially but the availability of item in their stocks, I have asked that they check with their dealer to see if any CZ's are available for quick order but if none are, do you suggest I wait the "Months" I was told by the retailer it could take in order for some to become available or do I just settle for the Savage?

So here is the update, his dealer has no 455 Americans only 455 Standards

If I wanted a 452 I would have to go for this model: http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-452-special-military-training-rifle/

I am not sure about the model differences between the LUX, Standard and American I was told it was the way the stocks were modeled but I dunno.

Any advice from here ?

I would like to scope the gun I get..if that helps with advice. :)

Depending on the price, I would be all over that like a fat kid on a Smartie.
Mikeystew has a couple threads on one like this I believe.
Not to forget ClayneB (?) with his five hundred yard shots and the numerous
times he changed the shadows of his........... :D
