Please Help Me Keep My .357

I seem to recall seeing a 6" barrel for a model 19 at a g-show recently...... If, big if I can track down the seller I'll drop you a PM.

Iirc he was asking $175 for the barrel.......
A Model 19 barrel won't work since the front sight is designed for an adjustable rear--the Mod 13 has a low fixed rear sight. Maybe possible to modify it?

Had a similar issue just recently. sent it ti murry charleson and he put a new barrel on it.

I've been trying to email him to see what the cost is and what barrels he has available to him.

I don't want to call because I'm sure he's busy and I'm really just tire kicking at the moment.

The only thing that Western Gun Parts has available in .38/.357 are model 14 barrels. Not sure how much it would take to make it work on a fixed sight gun since the sight base obviously has to be lowered and the rib on the barrel looks to be too tall, might be in the way for a proper sight picture.

I've been checking the EE a lot recently for barrels and haven't seen anything in .38 and definitely not for $50-75. Even have a WTB up but nothing so far.

Make any barrel fit so that you can keep it,
Modify the sight to work,
Find proper barrel and remove modified and install correct,
Sell modified barrel to the next guy who gets in the same pickle

Mind you putting a .38Spl barrel onto a 19 would likely mean that you'd want to limit it to shooting .38's. I don't know if the metal from the .38Spl guns is any weaker or not. But I'd hate to find out the hard way.

To be fair, the Model 13 and Model 19 always did have issues with a steady diet of .357.

It was mentioned before that your dad, as executor, has as long as it reasonably takes to do what needs to be done with the gun. Would it not be reasonable to have a standing order at a local gun shop to keep their eyes open for a non prohibited barrel for it and he can keep it in his possession as executor until one is found? You probably wouldn't be legal to take it to the range, but it would keep it out of the smelter. And if you were executor of your dad's will, then you would be able to keep it until the appropriate barrel was found, and so on. You might be able to at least keep it in the family that way. Best of luck to you however it goes.
