Please Help! Should I buy WS-MCR or new Kodiak Defense WK180 Magpul edition??

The MCR has a last round hold open but as mentioned above it's magazine activated with no external release. That being said... It is REALLY simple to engage it through the empty magwell with your index finger and then just use the slingshot method to release the bolt. With the charging handle being so easy to swap left/right side you can set it up to which ever makes it more comfortable for you to use this way.
Edit: Looking at the External Bolt Catch Release that Kodiak sells it looks like it would probably work on the MCR... possibly with some slight modding, i think.

Tenda just got a bunch of WK-180-C Magpul in stock Yesterday and picked one up. Looking forward to try it out.

Assuming I weren't going to lose much money on it, maybe 200 bucks, would upgrading from a WK to an MCR be worth it?

As someone who owned a WK180, the improvements on the MCR are worth the extra $200.
Having the charging handle and cam pin running on steel should insure that the rifle lasts forever.

That being said, with the way the country is going I wouldn't wait long for one to become available. The WK is a decent plan B, at least now that the kinks are more or less worked out, and they seem to be much easier to find.

Yes. I had and sold a WK. I have examined a MCR and it is much more solid and tight. The steel plates eliminate wear and make the BCG travel smoother. Having a standard front receiver push pin also avoids accidentally losing c-clip that the WK uses to keep the front pin in place. The MCR also added a rear push pin to really tighten up the receiver lock up.

Only problem for me is finding somewhere that has MCR in stock.

Call Gone Fishin' in BC.

another heads up, Italian Sporting Goods posted they received a shipment of WS-MCR's and Prairie Gun Traders still show they have stock as well

that was quick - i s g sold out. looks like the next wave of ws-mcr's are hitting the market, however. i wonder if the new production run has any changes/improvements?

Great thread. Very helpful. I managed to secure a WK180C. It’s a plan B for the AR as well. However I may take a closer look at the WSR rifle or upgrade as necessary. I’m hoping the newer batches are somewhat ironed out.

One more option for those with a lot of money, looking for a more boutique firearm; Range Warrior Accessories. They are again active. RWA was the first to make uppers with steel side panels for the bolt control group to run along, and they build each of their firearms with quality IBI barrels. They use NoDak SPUD 180 lowers for their complete firearms, but also make WK-180C compatible uppers. They make complete firearms and uppers in .223 Wylde, .300 Blackout, 7.62x39mm, and Grendel. When requesting a build, you can request a full rifle length gas system if you wish, to put the gas port away from your hand. They retail some of their products through Calgary Shooting Centre; currently a 300 Blackout full firearm and a 7.62x39mm WK-180C compatible upper are in stock.

I haven't seen any negative feedback regarding the RWA firearms and uppers. I'll post a thread to see if we can get any feedback regarding their products, either positive or negative.

The 7.62x39 upper is the cost of a new rifle!!!

I will line up for a 7.62x39 factory rifle. Cheap ammo. Hard hitter. AR pattern 10 round pistol mags ..
