Pay the money, don't bother asking a weapon tech. They aren't gun smiths and are quite far from it. They are taught how to diagnose and change parts on CF weapons, mobile kitchens and be lock smiths. Take 10 DP02 qualified weapon techs and ask them to chamber a barrel blank, cut threads or blue print an action and you will get 10 blank stares.

@ throatpunch

That is good of you to man up.

If you are in the service I would like to close by saying thank you for what you do.

Enjoy the season and stay safe.

Spot on.

Ok gents

I appologize for the unnecessary rant, it was a bad mistake from me and there's no excuse. I offended a lot of people on this forum and would like to give my utmost appology.

If you still feel like you want justice, don't hesitate to pm me.

Sincerely

Throatpunch.

Attaboy. The balls to admit you're wrong are not often found on this site of ours. Good on ya.

I would suggest that you copy this post ^ and attach it as an edit below your original post. Your "manning up" post buried here 80 posts deep will do little to quench the flames if people can't find it.

In the mean time, put this on:

What's a mechanic or plumber making these days?

More then a Carpenter.
Mecahnical repair shops are getting exensive to run these days though.....with the software costs and fancy specialty tools needed.
Gone are the days of fixing things with a basic set of auto tools.

Plumbing and Electrical haven't changed nearly as much in the 25 years I've been in construction.

Electricians don't need shops or even a lot of expensive and large tools. Usually work under a roof...... good trade for sure.

If you think $85 an hour shop rate is bad, my shop rate is $250 an hour. And we are slammed with work right now. Skilled trades cost money.

To me 85 an hour is expensive. However it all depends on where you are! Here in nb most things are cheep do Labour. In fort Mac it's more! Heck I have a few friends who own semi's and parked them here to truck for someone else in Alberta. I own a business and have over head so I do understand that you need to charge more than actual Labour cost. At the end of the day it's your choice to pay the quoted price or not. To me I wouldn't pay that here I'd do like others and learn and do it myself. If it was 30 an hour I'd say go ahead. But that's my 0.02.

Nothing like a Army guy who makes over $60,000 a year complaining about a Gunsmith who makes a lot less ;)

Tools, time, skill and quality cost money.

A friend wants to get a barrel installed, it doesn't take an hour to do this. I'm assuming this price is common! I guess I should be more appreciative in edmonton on how much I pay.

You are ranting away... why not state the facts and let everyone decide... all the details... 'A friend wants to get a barrel installed' does not explain anything.

Its important to first read the whole thread rather than hitting "post reply" immediately after reading the first post...

Hehe this thread has made me laugh. Try dealing with engineers that charge $500 an hour to sit on their computers and plug in a few bits of Data.

I'm sure for the gunsmith trying to remove a live round that's stuck in a chamber, $85 an hour just doesn't seem like enough.

You have to pay for the gunsmith to not be earning the $85 doing someone else's work for that hour. If you want me to spend my time painting your house you have to pay what someone else would pay me to paint their house instead. That's how markets operate.

I know a lot of military guys and they don't make even close to $60,000 a year. Most of them have second jobs just to make ends meet.

I just read this entire thread so I feel I have earned the right to comment.

Point 1: I am glad to see that the OP has "manned up" and admitted he was wrong. To err is human, to admit it superhuman. Apologizing definately earned you back some respect.

Point 2: c-fbmi in post #44 nails it. Couldn't say it better myself.

a non spec MCpl 9 years in would make around incentive 2 or 3, 5116.00 a month, if he was Appointed after 4 years as Cpl. 3 years as Pte. Not counting his LDA, which he is with the Strats, so 7.5ish years LDA(not counting initial basic and battle school, that is probably lvl 2, another 498ish a month. Then take out taxes.

Makes about 67k before the tax man and life takes its share.
