PMAG M3: First Impressions

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Many distributors and suppliers in the US are no longer taking new dealer orders, so I suspect some of the "hot ticket" items have to be sourced directly from other more expensive sources. The PMAG M3 was in limited quantity even before this. I assume if the PMAG MOE is now listed for $25 that the PMAG M3 was $30 or more?

$26.99 for the Gen3 which seems reasonable given they're a new item and current supply issues. A $2 differential between M2 and M3 seems low to me if anything.

M3 was $26.99
G2 $24.99

I don't think Gen2's for $24.99 is gouging at all, seeing as that was their regular price ($19.99 was a sale, long lasted at that). Especially considering how people were posting Pmags for close to 5x their price soon after all of this went down. Sure I would love to see Gen3's down to $20 with a free mag for every 10, but I don't think that will happen until the threats of a "gun grab" are gone...if the threat doesn't become reality

All my opinion of course...

For well over a year though a certain dealer had a deal on six packs of PMags that worked out to $19.99 per mag. Despite having over 70 in inventory earlier available as singles, the six pack deal was nowhere to be found.

It could be a lot worse, granted. No, it's not really gouging, I was a bit harsh with a poor choice of words there. It's a sign though of what we can expect of pricing in the foreseeable future.

Will the normal Pmag Ranger Floor plates work with the Gen3's? Just wondering seeing as they redesigned the floor plate on the latest Gen.

Um, that was kind of intended as a joke by a few of us... ;) But yes, it's unrealistic to think that prices will remain the same indefinitely (especially in lieu of supply issues in the US).

I was kind of hoping that was the case, but you can never be quite sure these days!

From what I understand, yes - although I haven't taken one off to try. They should, though - because the width and dimensions of the PMAG M3 are essentially the same. I'll try a standard and ranger baseplate later just to confirm.

Myth Busted

Good thing I checked... Neither the standard PMAG MOE baseplate or PMAG Ranger plate will work on the new PMAG M3 magazines. The new Magpul MagLink coupler does work, though (pictured on the MOE). This could be one reason why they're continuing to manufacture the PMAG MOE for the time being.

Here's the new PMAG M3 next to a pair of PMAG MOE magazines. These have been staggered for an AR15, and with the texture pads they have a fairly decent gripping surface as well.

Any chance you can check to see if the original Magpuls work on them? I snagged a small order of the M3s but I'm wondering if now I need to get rid of my ranger plates...

The ranger plates definitely won't work. At least not without taking a dremel to one, anyway. Yes, the original 'Magpuls' should work - it just might require a bit more elbow grease.
