First Navy Queen's Medal winner in Canada (maybe in the world for that matter). Prizegiving just broken up.

Yar! International talk like a Queen's Medal winner day!

Queen's Medal

Just curious, where is the match held?

The Canadian Forces Small Arms Competition is about 3 wks long, held at Connaught Ranges just inside the outside edge of suburban Ottawa. Sniper rifle, pistol and plenty of service rifle. Reg Force, Primary Reserves, RCMP and Rangers. Besides lots of fancy trophies, the top individual service rifle shooters Reg Force, and Reserve/RCMP are awarded the Queen's Medal for Champion Shot. There were easily 8 or 10 serving and retired winners present. The medal is below the CD in the order of precedence.

Years ago, when the Army had lots of men and didn't budget things to the nickle, troops and officers were tasked to run the matches. Over the years, the quality of management declined to the point where the decision was taken not to run the matches. The DCRA perpetuated the tradition of service matches on its own, and somewhat shamed the Regular Army into resuming the competitions. The Staff realized the corporate knowledge and ability to hold the matches had dissipated, and they turned to the private sector. Last year the DCRA won the contract, and this year the DCRA lost to Advanced Competition Logistics (ACL). The contract was worth about $375,000 with a lot of compliance conditions.
