That's a pretty damn good deal right there.

I got one (unaccessorized - i.e. no holster etc.) for $499 and it's worth every penny. GREAT gun.

It's a DAO with a bobbed hammer, but the trigger is smoooooooooooooooth. Long, heavy pull - but smooooooooooooooooooooth.

Great Deal

You probably won't find a better deal. I got the Centurian and love it. It has a tiny bit of holster wear but outside of that it's in excellent shape and the DAO is a real pleasure to shoot. Go for it.

Thanks Doc & What. I'm glad you mentioned the DA. I was worried about that. Stupid question on that note; is it just the first shot that is a DA long hard trigger pull? I've never owned a DA only pistol.

Every shot will be double action. It is a comforting thought when it you are wrongly accused of a crime and have one pointed at your head!!!:redface:
 
Yes, like PEGUY said above every shot will be DA - no options on the 96D. It's got an amazingly smooth trigger though, and a DAO is a great way to work on consistent hand position during trigger pull - I really noticed a right-side creep in my shots for the first 3 or 4 rounds until I realized I didn't have the hand control I should have.

Beretta's

Departments have gone away from the 96D for a few different reasons. Reliability and durability were the main reasons a few years back, and now Beretta doesn't make the same model anymore. With many guns in service for more than a decade, it's time for an overhaul on large portions of some PD's inventory. It is a natural time to look to something different, and manufacturers will offer incentives sometimes. My PD was one of the first in Canada to ditch the 96D due to reliability and maintenance issues (plus Beretta's famous service). Most of our pistols had less than 2500 rounds through them, some were brand new in the box. The 96D is a good deal at that price if you are looking for a quality .40 for punching paper, and don't plan on putting tons of ammo through it. If you can, get a Centurion. Oh, and johnl, new age cops eat bagels, not dounuts, but you can still fit your finger through them (I use my middle one ;) ).
 
Has anyone contacted them on the price of a Gock 17? They say price depends on wear & tear.

I know Slavex I am thinking about going over to the dark side...:D

I bought a 96D Centurian about 2 years ago. Looked to be "as new". Great shooter and have put thousands of rounds through it without a problem. No issues what so ever..keep it clean and lubed.

did your PD by any chance use cheapo aftermarket magazines?

my 92FS has a little more than 2500 rounds through it with exactly 0 maulfanctions...
