Police Sidearms

Well since our guys are using body armour, FMJ would a better choice for the bad guys.

Cheat Hint for the Bad Guys reading this. All Canadian body armour and LAV's can be easily defeated with .50 musket balls fired from a replica Brown bess, honest!!

ERT carry P229's, use 870's and mini 14's, they are supposed to be getting Demaco C8's, but I've heard this for 2 years.
Very limited use is the HK P7 M8, used by VIP squad some years ago, but I haven't seen one in about 10 yrs.
I also understand a single stack Sig, possibly a 239 in 40, for small handed females and males, but I haven't seen one yet.

At the OPP detachment I work at we do have one female officer that carries a 239. The cool thing is she has a total of 5 magazines on her. One in the gun and four on her belt because the 239 uses a single stack instead of the 12 round double stack in the 229.
 
If a police force choses a gun with a safety on it, do they remove the safety? In North Bay the police use Beretta 96's and we had a question on a test if they had safeties. So I marked true and got it wrong, apparently they remove the safety from the gun, or they do not come with them on it.

In Ontario the gun is not allowed to have an external safty, and must be DAO
 
Toronto Police use Glock 17's in .40 cal. They have 15 round mags. The pistol has the safety on the trigger. The holster is the safety, once they draw they need to be able to shoot - with out fumbling for external safties.

My friend who is on the force says the mag springs are getting old that they they usually load 13 rounds in to a mag, to prevent stoppages.
 
Toronto Police standard issue sidearmfor uniform is the Glock 22. They also issue Glock 27 to plains cloths and detectives, and ETF use the Glock 17. The hold up squad use to carry Glock 19, but I think that they have since switched.

There is lots of imformation on the web that shows JHP to be ineffective against body armour. FMJ prforms better and bullets with a hard core are more likely to penetrate.

That must be a new model... a Glock 17 in .40 cal.... :D :p

you mean the GLOCK 22 in .40 smith&wesson
ya the Edmonton police use the Glock 22 as well :D :eek: :D
