While back someone was supposed to import these polish tantal as a straight pull bolt action. Did it ever materialize? I can't find any info any longer.

it wasnt a tnatal is was just a straight pull using the smidht-rubin action disguised as an ak , after all the critique they got the things might be dead in the water , because everybody was expecting a semi

Well all you need to build to achieve that is a receiver that has no hole for gas piston and barrel without a gas port. Thats it. I wandered cause I never heard anything passed that point. Was interarms and guess the urban tactical was going to sell them. I was expecting a semi as well. Then again... i doubt that would fly with rcmp.

That's how I remember it :/
If I recall, it went "Hey look at this totally canada legal AK we're bringing in to you!" and then several weeks later "Surprise! Here it is, it's a straight pull rifle."

And that's the last I had heard of it other than the crowd of upset people that followed.

It was a good thing that Urban Tactical spilled the beans when they did. They saved themselves allot of money with this assured train-wreck.

I think it was more the price than the fact that it was a straight pull. I don't think anyone would have paid $1200 for that when you can get a Vz for ~$1000. If the price was $500 maybe they would have got some takers.

I thought that at the time it showed some promise if a proprietary say thirty round mag could be developed (unlimited cap as bolt action ? ) that might fit some thing else with minimal tinkering ie lar -15 mag.

They have straight pull AKs in England. So I don't see why we couldn't get them here...but who am I kidding....

They claimed to have a 15 round mag OK'd for it. All BS obviously, and there was supposedly a nonrestricted FRT for the rifle as well. If they actually built them and tried to sell them here they would have sold some at least. Like I said I was still in for one out of curiosity.

Sadly, everything that is semiauto is straight pull in the UK. They won't even allow anything in .223 because the military use it.
e.g. Mini14s have no gas port and are chambered in .222.

The Tantal might have been interesting if it were priced like a savage axis.
