And could someone please explain the Alexander Henry forestock? I suppose it is named after the exploring and fur-trading Alexander Henry, 1739-1824, but what is it for or how is it supposed to work? And did Henry himself invent it or is it something that the adventurers of his time generally favoured and Ruger or someone just decided to evoke that era by calling it after him?

The forestock would be named for the gunsmith Alexander Henry. Falling block rifles built by him sometimes had the similar style of forestock that the Ruger #1A and #1S have copied.

I will send my deposit as soon as I hear from the man.

Sorry guys, not much news, a few orders still rolling in. Lots anxious to get $$$ down. No word from Ruger yet. Bad time of year. Rest assured, we have the orders to go ahead; once(if?) Ruger says they will build.

Does that include homerolled, or just factory? The question though is not between 24" and 26". Some members wanted a 20". But the rifles in the poll are either 20 or 26", with 24" not being an option. I still have my preference for the 26".

I can run factory data or hand loads for practicly any powder , barrel length, cartridge, etc.
26" of barrel on a No.1 still makes for a very short rifle when compared to a bolt action!:)

I voted for the upgraded wood and the 1S. If no wood upgrade then I want the RSI. I think it will need another poll when Ruger says go, as with more time to think and look we will keep changing our minds. If it goes to vote official with two choices and my favorite isn't picked then I'm still in. Can't pass this up.

That's my take on it as well cat, 26" may seem long, and worries a lot of guys. But you have to consider the single action still makes for a handy little rifle;)

The vote in round figures.

RSI - 27%
1A - 21%
1S - 31%

Time to redo the poll or compromise with the 1A rifle?
I do like the longer 24" barrel. As already said, easy to have the barrel cut shorter if you want.

Uh.... the 1A and 1S are basically the same rifle with a different length barrel. The RSI wouldnt stand a chance if either of them wasnt on the poll.

I have to disagree. We'll leave it up to those in charge I guess (to post a new poll) but I suspect that the RSI would be favoured by FAR over the 26" 1S.

Okay, a new poll - mannlicher vs alex henry forend. When the Alex henry crushes the RSI a second poll 22" vs 26".

I want to be able to pick up my No1 303B and not feel like Im holding one chambered in 300 Mag

1A or RSI in that order
