I own 1 gun with a scope everything else is open sights.. still prefer open sights over a scope unless Im doing distence shooting but untill Im shooting a can at 150+ yards then I go scope..

in the fog, in the snow, and in the rain, iron sights are always ready! of course most of our shooting is within 100 yards here...

I have a few that are irons only, but my favourite rifles are all "irons only",
and two are used a lot - a Hawken in .58 and a FAIR Safari O/U in 6.5X55.
Bill Leeper is building a Ruger for me at this time, it will have a half round/half octagon barrel, express sights, and chambered in .... .303 BRIT!:D

Was out pre-season deer scouting today took my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 set up with an XS Sights Low Weaver Backup ghost ring sight...

Was shooting 405gr RNFPGC Bullet Barn bullets @ 1950fps had a great time blasting rocks on distant sand banks...

It is amazing how fast and accurately you can shoot with ghost ring sights...

Most of my shooting is without a scope lately:

Bullseye pistol/revolver practice (various Colts and S&Ws)
Rimfire rifle (BSA Martini)
Hunting rifle (Winchester M94 Carbine)
High power rifle (Wichita bolt action target rifle, with Paramount peep sight)

I usually only have a spotting scope handy, at the rifle range.

As you can barely see it's a true left hand bolt, left hand port.
Krieger barrel, 1 in 13 twist, canjar trigger.
In .308 Winchester, rifle meets International Palma rules.
I called Wichita Arms Inc. with the serial #, and they stated this action alone
was exported to Canada in 1992.
Custom stock, made & fully bedded by well known eastern full bore target shooter,
and all around good guy, Charlie Baynes. (Ex-RCMP)
Purchased from an eastern dealer in Lapua products in a private sale.

Not the best picture sorry!

I always practice with irons if they are installed on a particular rifle.

For me, that has been lever guns, a Ruger #1, and an AR15. (Does a shotgun bead even count?)

Just curious Cat , why that particular caliber ? I could think of a few calibers that i'd think are much better , that I personally would much rather use on a custom rifle.:D
