Poll: knife carrying

Yes, 100% of the time, all the time, everywhere I go.

Mostly out of fear of dogs, and their incompetent owners. All too often, I see scrawny little twerps, walking around with all sorts of massive, crazy attack monsters and fighting breeds. Especially in the city. What's the deal with that, anyways? The smaller your apartment, the larger the dog you need to own??

5% of the reason, is because it's handy; and growing up in the country/on the farm makes it part of my culture.

6% of the reason, is fear of attack monster dogs (went to the beach last summer, and two lesbo's show up and let out two GIANT rottweillers from their teeny European weirdo clown car. "Pack up our $hit, babe, We're leavin!")

3% of the reason, is to not get caught flat-footed, in case one of Trudeau's rapefugees, starts lookin at me fanny wid goat eyes, as a way to get 72 virgins....

86% of the reason, is because the penalties for carrying around an uzi, are still just a little bit too stiff.

I always have a pocket knife but not always in the conventional sense

I always have a swiss army knife on the key chain. Those really small ones with a knife, bottle opener, tweezers and tooth pick. the nail file is of no use to me. I think its called the rally

My truck always has some CRKT Ken onion design $60 tactical looking knife in it.

At work I always have the leatherman rev on the belt. Great little tool.

When going out to the bush its the opinel and leatherman supertool 300.

Got every knife need covered. If what I have can't do what I need in each situation I should be going to get the proper tools anyway

I've thought about carrying, I certainly have a few in my own collection that would fit the job, but honestly all I've ever needed is an exacto knife for any of my work (opening boxes is the kinda grubby stuff I wouldn't dirty a real knife with, and most are too big for stripping wires). Meanwhile, not that I ever would... ;) but if I was going to carry for the purpose of defense, I'd prefer my ASP baton.

90% of the time, but I sometimes forget. I carry a knife because it's super useful for many things and because of a traffic accident I stopped for where the driver was unconscious and I had to break the window with my elbow. My carry knife has a little spike on the end to make window breaking easy.

1) yes, always
2) because, as mentioned by many others, it is a very useful tool.

I find it interesting that the OP says he does not carry one, as he has not come across a situation that would require it. At the risk of being a cliche - that one time in your life when you find yourself in a situation where you require it, will be the one time you will be wishin you had it.
Myself, I have had the opportunity (unfortunately for all involved) to use my knife at a serious accident scene to cut the seatbelt of a person to get them out of the veh.
Never thought I would have to use it for that, but glad I had it with me, so I could.
Just a thought.....

Yes always have a knife.

I was playing some shinny hockey with some kids today and one asked me to open his sucker. The wrapper was being difficult so I whipped out my knife and cut it off. The kids eyes went wide...."Why do you have a knife?"

"For opening suckers of course!"

"Oh right! Makes sense!" He says....

Besides suckers it has endless uses and you will never know all of the things it can do until you have a job that needs one....and you don't have it with you.

Always carry one. And why? Because I can't carry a gun in the people's republic of kanada. And for clarification, mine has a flashlight, glass breaker, fire starter and seat belt cutter as well as a blade. More of a multi purpose tool.

I have carried a knife since I was 6 years old, growing up on a farm. I use the knife for cutiing paper, string, rope, whittling wood. The knife is a great multi purpose tool that has come in handy many times in all the years that I have carried one.

1. Yes - carry a folding knife with me all the time (Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight)
2. A knife is a handy tool to cut juicy fruits like oranges (splashing the juice all over your hand is just gross) and to open envelops (so the open looks smooth instead of like my dog just crewed it)

Yes, 100% of the time I have one in my pocket.

Biggest reasoning is it's incredibly useful. My kids and Wife are always asking me to cut this open, cut that off... I even have one that's specifically my "Dress Knife" for the times I find myself in a suit or a Tux. I use one all day at work to open boxes, cans, remove interior trim from cars. It's and extension of my finger nails for picking teeth and stuff off things.

I just used it to cut a Kiwifruit in half to eat... I'd go hungry without it!

EDIT: I have also used it to cut a dog free of some twine that I came across walking my own dog, It's an indispensable safety tool sometimes too.

lol..I, like many, carry a knife daily..I use it at work. I would look stupid trying to cut through rolls of sod with my bare hands! LOL

I carry an expensive pocket knife every day.
Useful for prying things or using as a screwdriver.

A Leatherman is a better tool for such tasks. I've been carrying the same one to work for 16yrs. and would replace it ASAP if lost. I use it daily for cutting wire, rope, plastic etc. I once used it to cut a tangled tag line rope while in a crane basket 150ft in the air.
