6.5x55 swede-does the job very efficiently with no fuss,I've put a lot of blacktails down with one shot, and nothing went far

Sometimes where there are deer (or caribou) there are bears. For that reason I like a 30-06 with 180 grain bullets. Because sometimes you have tags for deer and elk, or moose, or bears, the '06 gives you the latitude to use it on whatever you might meet.

Kinda like carrying a 375 H&H while hunting Africa. Just right to deal with whatever you decide to line up on.

When you get right down to it all those calibers are perfect for deer only.
The better question is: which of these is the most bang for the buck (no pun intended), with the least impact on your shoulder with very little bullet drop and I say it's .270 based on that criteria. Really though, what's the difference between .260, .270 and .280? Very little I would say.

I voted .30-06 because I keep comming back to that cartridge as my all around choice. I also use a .30-30 and a .303 and don't feel hard done by when I carry them.

I don't currently use a .308 or .270 only because I don't currently own one but have had great success with both in the past.

Each to their own as long as you can put the bullet where it counts

For small Deer under 200 Yds. any of these would be fine. I vote 06 just because I like it. I hunt Deer with an STW. I just don't get what makes people think its cool to use the smallest gun they can squeak by with.

30-06 good all around gun, with a 165 gr fusion round. Good all around caliber never have to worry about being under gunned and its not as succeptible to wind. though i must admit my 1st deer was shot with a 7mm-08 which is a good gun for longer ranger flat shooter.

I voted for the 260 even though I don't own one. 256 or 260 are quite adequate for deer and have much less recoil.

The top three choices come to .270, 30-06 and .308. Could this be a case where the average deer hunter feels more comfortable with the extra power? Let’s give this a few more days and see.

There is no right or wrong answer to this poll. It comes down to what one prefers.

I will start up my 2nd poll on The Optimal Moose Round this weekend. Let's see if there is any interesting observation.

Thanks for your input.

.308 150gr Remington core lokt.... while the .243 and 25-06 are great deer rounds , for me a bigger hole means dead faster. The 30-30 can be a little feeble at 200 yards
